Ok thanks. I may have to look into that. I have one that I have plugged into my computer but haven’t really played with it much. I make do with a loop so far.

I’ve got a spyderco paramilitary 2 in SV110. I chipped the tip of the blade and new to try an clean it up beer I can. What would be the best way to go about it. I have the 100 – 1500 grit stones And a we130 base. It’s not to bad and was thinking g I could just start with the 100 until I get a bevel all the way to the tip then sharpen normally or…[Read more]

I tried posting the other day but not sure it worked so sorry if this is a repeat. Anyone familiar with this scope? https://www.elecrow.com/digital-portable-1-600x-3-6mp-microscope-continuous-magnifier-with-4-3inch-hd-oled-display.html Hoping to get a different microscope that doesn’t need to be plugged into a computer. I take the sharpener wi…[Read more]

Thanks. I had tried looking searching first I figured someone had done it already. Apparently my google skills are severely lacking.

i currently have the 1500/glass platen set. I was planning to get the 2200/3000 diamond set then swapping the glass and 2200 plates. How hard would that be to do and how would I go about it? Any reason not to do it that way?

I do use an angle finder but typically only on the first set of stones and maybe a couple stones in to double check. Problem I’m running into now is when I stropped the Para 2 I dropped the angle by 2 and didn’t realize but looks like I was only hitting the shoulder. Plus I was having trouble hitting the jaws. So need to play with only dro…[Read more]

How’s the knife holding up so far? I’m really intrigued by this steel. I’ve got a Para in S110v and one of my favorite knives. Debating weather to get the Para2 in or the Manix 2 in maxamet. Can’t decide between the two. What did you end up sticking with on your micro bevel? I saw some people had issue with chipping. Did you do anything…[Read more]

So Injust picked up a couple higonokami knives. I believe one each in blue steel and white steel. I think the white paper at least is a San mai. Looking for some tips. Anyone have any experience sharping these? Not sure how the high carbon steels will doncompared to the stainless Im more used to sharpening. They appear to be fairly thick but…

So I just order a Yahiko VG-10 Gyuto. Can’t wait to see how the harder steel does with holding an edge and then sharpening. I plan to use it till the Tojiro ITK (white steel#2) and funds come back into stock. Then I’m hoping after some good use to sharpen them at the same time and see how the sharpening and then edge formation and retention go.…[Read more]

So right now I have a 40x jewelers loop and I’m hoping to upgrade to a microscope. Unfortunately I’m not often at home when I sharpen so one that plugs into a computer isn’t the most practical. I found this one https://www.amazon.com/Vividia-Borescope-Microscope-Professional-Multi-functional/dp/B00J7PE7R6 that hooks can hook up to a phone with…[Read more]

Thanks for all the replies. I’ve been searching through the forum for a while now getting advice. So far I’ve kept it simple and straight forward but just ordered the 1500 diamond with 6m lapping and the 4/2 strops so trying to get a bit more advanced with my sharpening techniques and such. I have been using up to the 1200/1600 ceramics. How are…[Read more]

I was hoping for around $80 but not sure if that is reasonable or not for a decent Japanese. If not what range would you recommend? Cheaper is always better. I was thinking of maybe trying the traditional handle but not sure on that yet. Is there any pro or cons of that over the western hadlenon the Japanese style?

I have been wanting to get a nice Japanese kitchen knife for a while now but before I drop a lot of cash on a really nice one I was hoping to find a decent but inexpensive one to try out. I have only used western style as of yet. Any suggestions on brand and knife? I was thinking a Gyuto would give me a good all round intro to them. Preferably…[Read more]
