This clock is 10′ behind me in the reflection on the blade edge. I had to focus on the piano in front of me to get the clock behind me in focus, that’s why the blade is not in focus in the 2nd and 3rd pictures

10/20/2016 at 10:15 am #35490Just put some blue locktite on the threads and let it set, then break it free and you won’t need to lock it down because it will have enough resistance from the locktite and won’t move. Might have to do it again sometime in the future depending on how much you use them.

10/18/2016 at 6:34 pm #35459I can tell you that the angle is somewhere closer to 20dps as I have reprofiled a few to 18dps and 15dps and I’m always making the factory bevel more acute. I’m pretty sure they try to make them just under 20dps so you can resharpen them on the 40° inclusive setting on their sharpmaker.
10/17/2016 at 9:46 pm #35449While unrelated to theshipping costs, aren’t the 12″ rods standard with the ball joint arms? I bought the 14″ and believe they are only 2″ longer then the rods that came with my upgrade kit.
Here’s a list of the rods that come with each sharpening system or upgrade kit: Sharpeners
- Precision Sharpener – 8″ Guide Rods (must purchase an upgrade kit that includes the ball-joint rod ends in order to change them out)
- Pro-Pack 1 – 8″ Guide Rods (must purchase an upgrade kit that includes the ball-joint rod ends in order to change them out)
- Pro-Pack II – 8″ Guide Rods (can be changed out)
- Field and Sport – 8″ Guide Rods (can be changed out)
- Generation 3 Pro – 8″ Guide Rods (can be changed out)
- Commercial Series Sharpener – 8″ Guide Rods (can be changed out)
- Field and Sport Pro – 10″ Guide Rods (can be changed out)
Upgrade Kits
- Pro-Pack II Upgrade Kit – 8″ Guide Rods (includes ball-joint rod ends)
- Generation 3 Vise – 10″ Guide Rods
- Generation 3 Vise with Ball-Joint Guide Rods – 10″ Guide Rods (includes ball-joint rod ends)
Joe, where did you purchase your system? We don’t offer 14″ rods and the 12″ rods do not come standard with any of our systems or kits. -Kyle
Ok, that explains it, I bought the gen 3 vice upgrade kit that came with 10″, thinking they were 12″ and thought I upgraded to 14″ but obviously ordered and received 12″. Sorry about that.

Received my AAG(advanced alignment guide) this weekend but its opaque and need to put light behind it to see a shadow of the knife. Is this normal?
Edit:
its only opaque if your an idiot like me and don’t peal off the protective white film behind it, lol. It’s transparent now!

10/05/2016 at 9:21 am #35280I don’t know if it’s possible, but lately we have a lot of questions about the VSTA. It would be nice if somebody could make a vid on how to use them.
This is not my video, I just did a YouTube search. I haven’t even watched the whole thing so if it sucks im sorry.

10/04/2016 at 7:52 pm #35276So, the cheap way to do this would be re measuring with each grit? This looks like a good idea! I noticed a differential between my diamond hones and the ceramics. It messed up my work
Some of my paddles are a different thickness on each side. Measuring every time I changed stones didn’t work for me as well as these do as long as I am consistent. I love them now.

Wow, my stones must not be broken in at all or I’m using too much pressure with the 1k although for the last 25 strokes per side I’m only using enough pressure to keep them against the knife. I have been using 15, 9, then 6 down to 0.5 diamond film. I have done 4 knifes with the 15 micron and maybe it has worn down along with my 1k diamond stone. Also, I have been wiping my films down with alcohol on a blue shop paper towels between uses and they come out very clean.
10/04/2016 at 7:03 am #35258Make sure you are consistent in how you set it up and checking/adjusting the rest of the stones. Take out the play in the paddles the same exact way from start to finish. It frustrated me the first time I tried using them and I gave up. Last night I thought it through and and I had excellent consistent results and for the first time I didn’t have to use leather strops (only used diamond film down to 0.5um) to blend in the faceting even after checking every step with an angle cube. Now it’s much faster then checking with an angle cube and yeilds better results.
Tip, I cut and taped a piece of white paper under the vsta’s so I could see any gap between the stone and face of the vsta.
What does swat stand for??(relative to the vsta)

10/02/2016 at 6:50 pm #35232I’d put some gloves on and see if I could push it over and pop it in.

10/02/2016 at 10:28 am #35224I wuz cruizing thru some of the beautiful knife photos on this page this morning and noticed that the post by Joe Manco (09/26/2016 at 9:13 pm) showed an Osborne knife – a maker I didn’t know much (more like anything) about. So I went to his web site http://www.osborneknives.com/. If you want to look at some really fancy knives, give it a look-see. For those like me, who are about as amateur as you can be in knifemaking, you find your head spinning; and thinking “I’m not worthy, I’m not worthy!”
That’s actually a Benchmade 950 Rift designed for Benchmade by Osborne. Its an exclusive model(still available). I bought it I impulsively second hand because it was black and orange(Harley colors) and has become my favorite back pocket knife for the last couple of months. I usually carry a Para2 back there but can resist grabbing this one every morning.
10/01/2016 at 9:33 pm #35217I taped the vice jaws and not the blade when I did this M4 para2 blade earlier tonight. Worked fine but doesn’t last more then one blade. I prefer to remove the blade from the body of the knife when possible and if I’m not in a rush.
