If the hex on the rod end ball stud was machined off and the threads continued in it’s place, a hex nut could serve as a lock nut for the micro adjustment and eliminate the thumb screw and it’s potential for damaging the ball stud threads. Simply make the desired adjustment, hold the hex key steady and snug the lock nut with a 7/16″ open end wrench.

Actually, I’ve tried the same set-up and it doesn’t come close to the ease of use of the “lock screw”.  Place a small piece of plastic  under the lock screw and under pressure it will conform to the threads of the micro-adjusts.  It will act as a “brake” against movement of the micro-adjust screws until the micro-adjust screw is removed.  You should be able to make even the smallest changes in the micro-adjusts and still not have it drift out of position.  No “two handed” operations required.

Just put some blue locktite on the threads and let it set, then break it free and you won’t need to lock it down because it will have enough resistance from the locktite and won’t move. Might have to do it again sometime in the future depending on how much you use them.

Now that’s a good idea. I’m going to try it.
