MarcH: brilliant, thank you. Is the idea to reach the apex then, or just burnish the bevel leading up to it? I don’t like my edges too polished, I like a degree of tooth. I usually stop at 1000 or 1500. If I get carried away, I use the DLF…I did do a Hogue folder with mirror bevels and a 600 edge and it is a frightening all around-er.
How is…[Read more]

TC: that is EXACTLY what I do, but repeatability even after a minute or two is still elusive: I will dial it to 18* on the Left, do the Right, and when I check left again, the 360s could show 17.75* or 18.3*
“In practice, what I do is to rest the stone with the angle cube attached to it against the edge being sharpened. I then grasp…[Read more]

TC: are you a stropping guy? I get the idea of it, but I work so hard for symmetry that introducing the softness and perhaps varying softness from left to right strop makes me anxious.

PS. I have done a gazillion kitchen knives and a bunch of other folders and fixed blades, but after the Hinderers, I am at a new level now.

Got it. Thanks fellas!!
I am starting to love this device. After screwing up a Dozier, two Chris Reeves, and others that I sent away for “real sharpening” to Josh, I just did 2 Hinderers and they came out beautifully!!!… I think I’ve stepped up my game and now I’m ready to keep fine-tuning it. Thank you again.
Set up is everything.

Thank you. You guys are the best.
The recalibration instructions are more confusing than an IKEA cabinet. Any tips?
What is a DLF?
Where do you get the locking stops?

yes, fresh batts in the Accuremote, and decent charge on the 360s

Do you set the angle with each new grit? On a “good” knife that I want really visually pleasing, I do. I have the VTSAs, but, fitting teach side of the stone each time, I get MORE variability because, I dunno why? I can’t get the damn things to work.
Side note, I sharpie with each grit.
Do you guys raise a burr with each grit?

I have 2 cubes. The DXL360s and the Accuremote. The 360s is maddening because of the time it takes to “settle” and is so jumpy that I can get 18* on one side, then 3 minutes later it’s 18.08, then 18.1 etc. believe me, I am holding it on the same spot of the blade, same finger pressure against the blade and using the same side of the stone to…[Read more]

Does anyone have any tips on mounting the blade to get the most even bevel considering the thick tip? Tip angled down and close to the vise?

@ Marc H…very innovative. Does the “Marc H AAG” sit perpendicularly to the base…i.e., parallel to the blade?

Thank you so much for your replies. I greatly appreciate them….just to clarify: there is no QC reason for me to upgrade the ball joint ends themselves? In other words, the ball joints have not been de-sloppified? If that is the case, new, larger diameter rods and the G3(2) vise should be the ticket!

Have the ball joint ends been upgraded in the last four + years?

sorry for the multiple posts… just wondering, are the PRE 2017 L brackets compatible with the new ball joint/jam nut ends for the 10″ rods?

Thank you. MarcH. I am curious if the ball joint assembly itself has been upgraded as well. Also, the new brackets with the lock-out knurled nut look like a great upgrade.
Your assumptions were correct about the set up. The only replacement part I had to buy was new brackets, as the old ones got buggered up from metal/diamond dust. One of the fine…[Read more]

I have the original Gen3 vise , and would like to update to the GEN3(2).
Will the angle bar that I needed for the first upgrade work with the newest vise?
I have read here that the guide rods are now a larger diameter. Are they the ones listed on the website? Can I use my pre-2017 brackets with them or do I have to upgrade them as well?

One of the special attributes about this system is the ability to repeat results.
To further that end, I purchased an advanced alignment guide. I’ve had it for a period of time and don’t know if they have been changed, but I’m really puzzled about using it properly.
There is so much play in the holes cut in the plastic guide as they rest on th…[Read more]
