Wash the stones… will crank up the power washer when it thaws outside!
An outstanding product, and I have the cuts to prove it!
And thanks re the edge. Shiny is nice.
01/13/2012 at 11:53 am #1354I get a nice mirror edge using the 5 micron strop. The 1000 grit stones give the edge a beautiful ‘glow’ but not quite mirror. I have not used the 1200/1600 stones.
01/09/2012 at 12:01 am #1313Rams, lambs…damn.
Will keep at it, may try one of those rubber grippy things for jars….
There’s a FAQ on the sight where Clay demonstrates a stable angle using a long square followed by a diagrammatic proof of the stability of the stones until you enter a new plane from the curvature of the tip. ( See FAQ #8) But you’re right, that slight variance pales to what I would get using stones or ceramic.
Thanks
11/22/2011 at 2:53 pm #903I opted to order from oldawan.com – very easy to work with (I asked him to confirm my order via text on my cell phone and send tracking info via email). It comes in tomorrow; coincidently, a box from gpknives should be on the back porch to keep the WEPS company while I’m at work!
Oldawan seems like a quality dealer. Honest, and there was about 12 hours from credit card charge to the first shipping confirmation.
11/16/2011 at 10:10 pm #866I couldn’t wait any longer. I really wanted the WEPS directly from Wicked Edge but I canceled my order but only after ordering the WEPS from one of their distributors Kay had referred me to. The distributor was great [www.Oldawan.com], although he couldn’t meet the sale price I got in August (AUGUST!!), he did lower his advertised price. LOL, so I’ll get in 4 days via FedEx. I actually toyed with the idea of a next day delivery for almost $100! Dang, I could have done this weeks ago.
I am having Thanksgiving with some friends, the husband learned to cook while deployed in France and Italy when he wasn’t flying, who has a set of French kitchen knives that seem to be made of very, very hard stainless (trying to use the Spyderco crock sticks were an exercise in futility — didnt move any metal), and will bring the WEPS (and bandaids) to get an edge on his knives. Right now, the spines and the edges are nearly indistinguishable. I just could’t bear watching him carve up what should be an excellent turkey (being raised on his farm with some ducks and chickens) subjected to essentially a pry-bar of a knife!
Ahh, will start learning on some of my less expensive knives. As I learn, will go up in quality as far as the knives go. Time to review some of the excellent Youtubes out there. I plan to post some microphotos on the forum in a week or two.
Some one moves up in line, Kay doesn’t doesn’t have to read my whiney emails, and I get my WEPS in about about 96 hours. Everyone wins.
Time to buy bandaids, lots of bandaids!!
10/26/2011 at 11:40 am #745Hi all. I’m David, and greetings from the free State of Maine where my EDC is both a Springfield Commander and (usually) a Spyderco ATR folder. Expect some microphotographs after I get my WEPS! I got into sharpening because, well, a knife is supposed to be sharp. Gave up on traditional stones when I got my first crock sticks in the late 80’s and got pretty good with them but never as uniform as I wanted, something I see the WEPS excelling at. Over the years, I collected too many knives (and firearms!). Had to give up the sidearm after joining the USAF (a flight doc) for a few years but got issued knives as it was part of the flying gear which kind of took the sting out it (free knives — woo hoo). Believe it or not, the rational was to deflate the emergency rafts in case they inflated during flight (C-17s and C-5’s). I did finagle a full auto Gerber when I was deployed. Anyway, I’ve been counting the days for far too long, about 17 days to go, until my WEPS should be here. Would it be unprofessional to take the delivery day as a sick day and sharpen all day long?
09/30/2011 at 7:52 am #554I got the ceramics ordered too but the price of the shapton stones has me hoping that stroppng will get the knives plenty sharp. I only have a few knives that could possibly need a surgical scalpel kind of sharpness. I have been looking into straight edges again ….
09/23/2011 at 12:03 pm #4912271 -2265 = 6. So I guess that means they only have 5 more! LOL
09/22/2011 at 1:03 pm #484Lets see, 2271 – 2252 = 19. With my luck, there are 18 left before they have to wait for the next batch to come in!!
Back to the sandpaper and mouse pad ….
09/21/2011 at 2:45 am #468Sorry, no clue here. #2271 and I’m looking at 11 Nov or so. I did learn how to use automotive sandpaper (100 -3000 grits) to put a convex edge an old knife of mine.
09/19/2011 at 3:57 am #453I hope they’re not holding up delivery of the system to ship w/ additional stones to save a bit of $$ on shipping. I would gladly pay separate shipping!
09/18/2011 at 9:26 am #438#2271 here and still waiting. I gave away my Spyderco system and dont want to use my DMT. Letting my knives go dull…. Maybe they have something against New Yawkers….
09/14/2011 at 2:08 am #384Hi all, I received my WEPS last week, and have been sharpening ever since.I have already found out that this is addictive and I’m gonna have to add some accessories to my pro kit.
Which accessories are you looking at? And do you have a Costco-size box of band-aids?? 🙂
09/12/2011 at 1:26 pm #364komat.: you lucky dog!! LOL.
I’m waiting until November……
09/07/2011 at 2:01 pm #334Great progression and pics in the link!
