Recently I purchased this angle guage:https://www.amazon.com/Wixey-WR300-Type-Digital-Backlight/dp/B00T6YZ0K6/ref=sr_1_1?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1486221932&sr=1-1&keywords=wixey+digital+angle+gaugehttps://www.amazon.com/Wixey-WR300-Type-Digital-Backlight/dp/B00T6YZ0K6/ref=sr_1_1?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1486221932&sr=1-1&keywords=wixey+digital+angle+gauge.

This Wixey is illuminated, very light weight, inexpensive and fast to use. It only shows reading to the tenth (0.1) but is very stable and sensitive. Once I get the angle set I can remove the gauge, tilt it and replace it against the stones repeatedly and it gives subsequent same readings, rock solid. It doesn’t flicker and jump between readings like the other models I have used. So I find it extremely quick and easy to verify my angle is set correctly. The Wixey only has a magnet on the bottom so when you use it on magnetic diamond stones the angle is subtracted from or adds up to 90 degrees depending on which side stone you’re checking. I use it  just by holding it gauge up with it’s non-magnetic sides against the stones or plates to get the direct reading. Since I use non-magnetic Shapton Stones and lapping films often this is how you would use it anyway.

For what it’s worth, I have a Wixey, an Igaging AngleCube and a Floureon DXL-360 Dual Axis Inclinometer and I like the Wixey the least.  The major dislikes are the lack of magnets on the other sides and of course, the resolution.  The DXL has magnets on five sides and V-notches on the four perimeter sides.  The Wixey seems more stable because of the lower resolution.

Does dual axis mean that you don’t have to replumb it while checking angles along the length of the blade ?

I hear you Tom but what I suggest is we’re or rather I’ll say I’m looking for repeatability. When I used my Igaging, or Accuremote, with their powerful magnets on 3 sides, I admit it’s nice that they do stick solid to diamond stones. For me to get 3 consecutive readings that were the same was near impossible. With their touted resolution to the 100th, (actually 0.05) they would always flicker a tenth or  5 hundreds on both side, high or low, and I would play with the allen key arm adjustment and look at the numbers and finally assume that I was at my angle by making an educated quick average of the readings. When some were slightly higher and some slightly lower, but all the readings were between a tenth and a hundredth of my mark, both above and below, for 3 or four readings in a row, Id call it set. They never were bang on my angle. So I submit with its lower resolution (0.1 degree) the Wixey does the same thing for me. I seldom start coarser than the 400/600 diamond and then move up to the Shapton stones or Diamond Lapping Films so the magnets only help about half the time. When I check my reading and make my arm adjustment and get my reading , (e.g.: 15.0 degrees), I can completely remove the Wixey and replace it and get my 3 0r 4 subsequent readings also exactly the same (15.0 degrees) What you will say, “but that’s repeating the same inaccurate readings”. What I believe from my observed results is if the readings were too far off, high or low the reading would roll up to 15.1 or keep flickering between readings (15.0-15.1) or roll down to 14.9 or keep flickering between readings (14.9-15.0) and read this same reading for subsequent measures. Only after I move the allen screw on the arm to make ever so slight an adjustments would it give me my three in a row readings at 15.0 degrees, and even three more if I wanted to check. I submit to you the accuracy is the same as averaging the readings with the Igaging or the Accuremote. Lastly, I graciously submit, Tom, only you that I know of, has the pleasure to use stones or platens with bronze bushing inserts to remove the slop, and improve the accuracy of the arms so maybe you are able to get more accurate readings and repeatability with the magnetic angle cubes then I can.
