I bought the Gen 3 Pro 2017 model and it has had no problems gripping the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. I am able to lift the whole unit up by the blade. On my Gen 3 Pro 2017 model, there is a tension adjustment that helps a lot with different thickness blades. Also, I have no experience with the previous version of the Gen 3 Pro, but it seems that the split jaws really do make a difference in the clamping ability of distally tapered knives. So far, I am extremely happy with it.

06/03/2017 at 5:33 pm #39490Thanks for the tip. I would be more than happy to write up a review. I am a little camera shy, so no videos here.
05/14/2017 at 12:10 pm #39126Thanks MarcH. I suppose I am looking to do both, an extremely sharp, highly polished edge on my folders, and a sharp utility edge on my kitchen knives. I do have a nice Ken Onion Shun chef knife that I would like to try. I haven’t received my gen 3 pro yet; it ships on the 19th of May. I will practice on my cheap knives until I’ve obtained a level of confidence to tackle that one.

That does make great sense. I never thought of it like that. My goal is to eventually get a razor sharp, mirror polished edge. I know I will have to practice a lot to obtain the experience and technique and I am willing to put in the time, practice, and patience to get there. My grandfather used to farm and garden, so the analogy made perfect sense to me.

05/14/2017 at 8:42 am #39117Ok. That makes it easy. Basically, do one or the other, but never together. Thank you sksharp.
05/09/2017 at 5:44 pm #39017I don’t have it yet. Ships out on the 19th. I’m sure I will love it though!
05/07/2017 at 8:00 pm #38950Thank you for your response. I hope to be able to create a sharp, mirrored edge one day. For now, I’m just going to concentrate on the essentials. I have a jeweler’s loupe; however, it is only 10X. Do you think that would be a useful power, or should I get something stronger. I also plan on getting the angle cube and the 1500 grit stones when I am able to save the money.
04/08/2017 at 10:37 pm #38275I am also new to this forum and I also appreciate everyone that contributes. I have not yet bought a Wicked Edge sharpening system yet, although, I will be in the very near future. I am looking at either the Gen 3 Pro or the Pro pack 3. I am leaning towards the Gen 3 pro, but they are both on back order, so I have some time to decide. In the meantime, I will continue to learn as much as I can from the individuals on this forum, as well as YouTube.
