those covers look great! nice work
12/05/2016 at 10:47 am #36158Ive been using the 16oo ceramics this entire time and was very happy with the results.
Once you use the lapping films, please report back your observations in comparison to the ceramics. I have the ceramics but once I used the lapping film I never went back. I may get the new 1500 grit stone today!
Sharpened 3 knives with the 1500s and the lapping film. I am very happy I ordered them!
I’m still breaking in the 1500s so it’s a little hard to give a real opinion, but the lapping films are great. My edges are sharper than ever. Not only can I whittle hair, I can curl it.The first knife I sharpened I did 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 1200,1600 then the film.
The second and third knives I did 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 1.4 ceramics, .6 ceramics, 1200,1600, 3 film, 1.5 film, 1 film, .5 film and then .1 film. They came out wonderfully! I may have taken a few extra steps but oh well, all in the name of fun!
I also ordered the gen 3 vice grip and I swear that seemed to make difference as well. Much less play.

11/29/2016 at 7:00 pm #36101I placed an order for the new 1500s and some diamond lapping film a few days ago. Very anxious to give them a try. Ive been using the 16oo ceramics this entire time and was very happy with the results. Finally broke down and will be giving the lapping film a try. How long does the film normally last? Apologies for the noob question.
11/26/2016 at 2:40 am #36019Fun thread! Lately I’ve been carrying the sebenza insingo alot. It changes from time to time though.
04/15/2015 at 9:53 pm #25260wow, that is awesome! definitely needed something like that on some of the kitchen knives i sharpened.
12/24/2013 at 6:19 am #16138Thanks Leo! I actually do have a loupe and check the edges before I change stones.
The knives are definitely sharp. Very happy with the edges I get with them. Was able to sharpen an extremely dull kitchen knife to curl phone book paper. 😉
I’m hoping I cant get the hair whittling sharpness because I’m still working on my technique, stones havent been fully broken in (I think I’ve only done 10 knives), and I havent tried playing with the strops yet. 😀
12/20/2013 at 12:32 am #16075must fight the urge to buy new kitchen knives….
12/20/2013 at 12:13 am #16074Thanks for the info folks! I tried lining up the tip of the knife to A but the stones were only hitting the edge of the tip. I moved it as far forward as I could and ended up sharpening at 18 degrees to somewhat match the stock bevel.
Still cant achieve hair whittling sharp, but overall I’m very happy with the results. Phonebook papers beware!
12/18/2013 at 8:39 pm #16049Thanks for the quick response Mark.
Unfortunately, I was hoping for where along the ruler did the tip of the blade go – A, B, C etc etc. Apologies for the confusion! 😉
12/18/2013 at 10:49 am #16036bump!
newb here. the edge on the shuffle looks beautiful. i attempted to sharpen my shuffle tonight after seeing your photos, but wasnt confident on the ruler setting.
