05/27/2012 at 10:21 am #3345Hi Clay
welcome back 🙂
thanks for looking into this issue. hope you take time to enjoy the weekend.
05/25/2012 at 9:02 am #3308Hi Josh
Wondering when you received your ceramic paddles? Are they part of the batch that just shipped or an earlier batch? Did you ever got a lot of white powder when you first used them?
Thanks ..
05/25/2012 at 5:25 am #3305Hi Bud
I talked with Kyle. He suggested I use them for awhile and see if they break-in i.e. there should be no more powder coming off eventually. Still seems a little unusual but I will sharpen all my kitchen knives and a couple folding knives this weekend and finish with the ceramics and see how it works.
05/25/2012 at 1:44 am #3298Hi Bob
I am in Lafayette .. about 30 miles south of Loveland. I can’t make it to the show (hiking in the mountains) but let me know when you are in the area.
We are having a bunch of neighbors over for happy hour on friday so depending on where you are traveling from, PM me if you think you might stop by and I’ll give your my contact details.
05/25/2012 at 1:37 am #3297Hey Bud
I had the same problem i.e. lots of white powder. I stopped after 2 strokes on each side and figured something might not be quite right with these.
05/24/2012 at 5:53 am #3278I received my 1200/1600 ceramic paddles yesterday after being on back-order for a couple months and have the same experience … pitting and lots of white powder.
i took two strokes and got enough white powder to think I was going to slice off the stone completely after 50+ strokes
very unlike the old-school ceramic sticks I had for years from syderco which were very smooth with no pits.
was going to ask the group if this was normal and found this thread.
05/20/2012 at 10:43 pm #3242i always have tried to get the manufacturer’s feedback on the factory edge angle but that is not always possible.
i am comfortable trusting the suggestions of anybody who has purchased a WEPS and is participating on this forum since they are likely much better at sharpening then i am !
05/19/2012 at 9:13 am #3227awesome … added one knife to test it but not showing up. i’ll check tomorrow and then add a couple more.
thanks
04/11/2012 at 8:25 am #2641Been backpacking and hiking for almost 40 years. Also love to go camping and shooting since that can include beer and whiskey. Still trying to go on my first hunt.
I have been using a lansky kit for a long time and wanted to upgrade so after spending a lot of time checking out other systems, got the WE sharpener, granite base, 800/1000 stones and the 1200/1600 stones (back-ordered).
All my knives are used pretty roughly. No presentation or display models 🙂 example: the serration on my 940 Osborn serration lasted about 4 months before being ground-down.
I don’t have any plans for mirror finishes but instead wanted a more accurate and efficient method to keep a good working edge on my knives. I am thinking I will only use the ceramics only on my kitchen knives.
Planning to work on the 940 tomorrow and see if I can get some of the nicks out of the blade.
Appreciate all the tips people are posting on this forum
