I got my Wicked Edge Pro Pack III about 2 weeks ago.  Before my first sharpening I had read and watched videos for days.  I have the basic principles of using the system down pretty well, and have sharpened around 20 knives.  The last few I have sharpened have been for friends.  My boss has a Dynamis by Dom Raso and wants it sharpened, but I am a bit confused as to how and where to mount this thing.  The only “flat” areas to clamp onto aren’t near the center of the apex.  Here is a link for reference.  Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like there’s a flat area next to the bolster.  I think that you could clamp it right there.  I have a small SOG folder with a wildly tapering blade and the Gen 3 vise holds it just fine.If that’s not secure enough, add some masking tape to give the vise something to bite into.  The Gen 3 vise you have will flex a little to account for differences in blade taper, but also may be too narrow if the blade is already over 3/16″ thick at that point.

Another option is to get the Tormek small knife adapter which will clamp in the WEPS vise and then hold the knife by the handle.

To add to what tcmeyer said… mark the blade with a Sharpie, clamp it near the handle, set the angle you want, and see where it removes Sharpie in the belly to tip area.  You can adjust this by tipping the knife up or down.

It’s a common misconception to think the blade needs to be clamped “near the center of the apex”.  You may want to take a look at this page for a bit of info on angle change.  Then this page for positioning the knife… except in your case, instead of moving the knife back and forth, you can tilt it up or down to get a similar outcome.
