Thanks Josh,
The clamp is the Ram brand of mounts and holders. I also have a front ball mount with a Brass blade clamp I made for for flexible blades.
You can see photos in the Mods section sticky “Show Me your Mods”
The balls are 1″ with 3/8″ threads. the clamp riser was through drilled and tapped for the 3/8-16″ threads.
I have several length arms based on the knife lengths. The setup pictured is listed below and is rock solid!
Ram-B-201U-C 6″ Aluminum arm
Rap-B-379U 1″ Tough Ball with 3/8″-16 threaded Stud
Rap-B-400U Small tough Clamp with 1″ Ball Mount
This setup cost around $90.00 “your mileage may vary”
I have played with the mounts and found that the best setup for me was to clamp the knife as normal and adjust for equal vertical side angles on your blade.” ******NOTE*****some knives are not flat and will not be correct at a zero angle”
Leave the Ram Arm tension loose and tighten the Ram Clamp on the handle.
Snug up the Ram arm tension and recheck the blade angle then finish tightening the Ram Arm.08/24/2015 at 11:23 pm #26358Try using a lead “BB” from shotgun shell of the right size. Tighten the set screw very snug to conform to the hole and threads then back off enough to allow you to move the angle adjuster screw with the allen wrench but not move on its own. It lasts for a long time. I’d say to make sure children don’t eat the lead shot, but that is the least dangerous part of knife sharpening.

You would be better off to move the topic I mentioned above to the proper area in mods. there is a lot of good info in that thread. or start a new topic and move my reply with the info and the proper credit for Benoit08/24/2015 at 5:47 am #26344Cliff,
This is courtesy of “Benoit” from 2013 under the general topic sharpener and accessory Maintenance. “Ball joint rubber protection” I just copy the good stuff and add my twist.08/24/2015 at 3:47 am #26342Thank You, Still work in Progress.
Those are CV joint boots for a RC car. I saw a link on this site a couple of months ago. Ebay item. search for the following.
HPI 104968 AXLE BOOT 25X47MM 4PCS BAJA 5SC USE W/104966 SUPER HD SHAFT
$9.00 for a pack of 4 when I looked today.
You have to punch a hole in the side of the boot for the arm attachment bolt. They are great for keeping all the “Crud” out of your ball joints, even when using wet stones!

08/22/2015 at 7:26 am #26332I have a similar setup with ram 1″ ball hardware. the tip support is filed from 1/4″ brass bar and mounted in a Garmin camera mount. The handle mount in the claw clamp I have a 9″ bubba blade in it and there is very little flex with this setup. Before the supports there was 1″ flex on the handle end and 1/2″ on the tip with light pressure.I ordered several lengths of the ball clamps to accommodate knives of different lengths.
