No…sadly, It will cut through just about any coating, but you need a BIG laser to cut metal and the metal cutting ones run at a different frequency also. If I do need something etched in metal I cover it with tape and laser out the design in the tape then use my metal etcher. It works well for things like a makers mark and so on. It was nice talking to you too….Oh! I am going to make the scissor jig (that was genius) I will post it up when I get it finished.
03/08/2016 at 12:30 pm #31831I do hi end custom holsters and sheaths. So to pass the time I began sharpening knives at the shows. It really brings people over to the table. Most people are more curious about the sharpener than the holsters, but it does get a conversation started. I could probably sell as many wicked edges as holsters. 🙂 Here is my website http://www.stitchdex.com I hope thats not breaking any forum rules. If so please remove.
On the rods….Are they worth doing? Like I said before, Im just not sure it would help. Boring and installing a sleeve sounds interesting. But again Im a tinkerer I guess I just look for small projects. Thats how I got into holsters, I made a few knives people wanted to buy them and they needed a sheath so that got me into leather. Things just snowballed from there.

03/07/2016 at 6:50 pm #31822Yep, I did watch your video. I thought you did a great job and all good mods. That was what made me get off my butt and make these mods. Im like you, I like the lower base, but its a double edge sword. I really like having the stone storage. For me, it makes it a lot easier to be mobile. Since I have a lathe and a couple of sticks of stainless laying around I am contemplating making a new set of larger diameter guide rods, but I keep talking myself out of it. I just don’t think it will help. I don’t know how sharp you can get a knife, but they get wicked sharp now…. Hell any sharper and they would be light sabers. (Note to Clay……you can use that line 🙂

10/31/2015 at 5:57 am #29327Thank you, Yes, I looked and looked at this knife for a while before I took the plunge. Im glad I did now that the pain of sticker shock went away. I worked it down through the diamond stones 100-1000 to re-profile the edge down to 17* then through the ceramic stones 1200 – .6 micron and then stropped it down to 3.5 micron diamond paste. I don’t find the S90V to difficult to work with using the wicked edge.

10/31/2015 at 2:34 am #29322If you are looking to adapt a dovetail base, take a look at the swiss arca (SP) mount, that photographers use on tripod heads. I adapt them to lots of things. They are not too expensive and you can readily get the male or female side.
10/30/2015 at 2:34 am #29319Thanks Juneau92,
I like the black photo too, but I didn’t think it showed the Gen 3 as well. I didn’t think it was ever going to get here. Now, I still cant use it because I want to do a video on it and would like to keep pristine for that. I may not be able to hold out much longer.
10/29/2015 at 10:04 am #29313It was just over 8 weeks for me. I spoke to someone in the office that told me I was #14 on the waiting list and they were receiving 45 from the machinist. I am very impressed with the quality…..Superb!
10/29/2015 at 6:58 am #2931110/29/2015 at 5:22 am #29309Well I received my White Hunter today. Tom you were correct, The flat above the curve is the best place. Thanks for the help!
10/27/2015 at 7:06 pm #29303I have the Gen II pro and my Gen 3 should be here Wednesday. I did consider the flat above the belly of the knife. Its been a few years since I have seen the WH in person but for some reason I was thinking that area was also sloped award the spine on the knife. That may be the way to go. the blade thickness might cause problems for the Gen III but I don’t think I would have any trouble in my other one.. I am beginning to think this would be a good knife for Clay to do a video on. Lots of things make this a bugger to sharpen
10/05/2015 at 11:16 pm #29129Thank you! The ZT 0562CF will be one of the next knives I sharpen with the Wicked edge. I am waiting on my Gen 3 to arrive so I can break in in on that knife. I love the ZT, but its just a bit big for me to carry everyday.
10/01/2015 at 6:27 am #29100I am currently waiting on my Gen 3 to arrive. Hopefully any day now. From watching your video and others, it looks like I will want to keep my Gen 2 model also. One good example is: I have a leather splitter with a 14″ blade that is 1/4″ thick and needs to be sharpened at 33* on one side. The Gen 2 does a great job on that blade. Im sure the Gen 3 was not designed to do odd blades like that, so I don’t expect it to. To me, the Gen 3 looks like it is designed to throw a knife in and re-profile the the edge to whatever you want and not worry about following the original edge on the knife.(I know you could get very close) Am I wrong here? I don’t mean to sound like I am downing the system, I bought mine taking all of the above in consideration. I understand there is give and take and the speed of the Gen 3 will be a huge advantage in my eyes.
08/19/2015 at 9:25 am #26306Thanks Guys, I wish the resolution could be better on here. Photo bucket sizes them down so much that a lot gets lost. I can understand why tho, the full resolution photo was close to 20 megs. I have the Gen III pro on order and will do a Photo shoot with it also.
