Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question either, but that Kaizen foam looks very promising to me.

I have the first attachment Marc showed in his photographs. It works well, but it is a bilt of a hassle to set it up. As a consuequence I do it someitmes like Tom: ” I may hold the handle by one hand while I hone the blade with the other. Seems to work really well, as the owners have been delighted with the results.”

Thanks guys, if I need a new microscope (still trying to get the older ones to work), the Carson software, in combination with Photoshop/Lightroom (which I own) looks very good, I have never seen any “knife microscope” reviews, but how do you think the Carson comparises to other ones, like Dino-Lite models?

Thanks for the extensive reply, Marc.
I guess I got this idea, wrongly, from what you wrote later. But of course this is my misinterpretation: I think I got the idea from the advantages you described of using a lower resolution:
This, got me thinking. I usually use the software at a high resolution setting and press a button to take a…[Read more]

MarcH sent me an interesting PM. Since I thought it might be of interest to other people as well, I post it here.
He often does not use the highest resolution the microscope image software offers, since lower resolutions show image changes quicker. Is this also the experience of other people?
I addition he wrote something that I interpreted as…[Read more]

And I do the same as Marc, always remaining logged in. I have no problem with PM notifications either. Besides, I also get them by mail. -

Thanks Clay, that’s a very clear video! I didn’t know Photoshop had this powerful function. I’m definitely gonna try it once I have one of my microscopes working. (The one I got from you worked fine, but the computer I installed the software on has gone to the computer heaven. My new computer has some problems with the software.)

Mark76 replied to the topic Diamond Stone Break-in Suggestion in the forum Abrasives 7 years, 1 month ago
I fear it will be a bit difficult to find somebody who wants to do this because I think the risk of damaging your diamond stones by rubbing them together is real. But if anyone wants to try: be my guest and please report your findings.

Thanks, Readheads! That Carson images indeed look pretty good. And the example of stacking images you showed is pretty impressive. Can you tell us what freeware you used? Something tells me this could be very similar to what Dino-Lite calls their EoDF function.

I agree. Some time ago I sharpened knives for a restaurant and I asked each cook what their preferred finish was. It varied between 800 grit and 5,000 grit, I think.
That would be interesting! I’ve followed and contributed to this forum not too long since its existence and I think we never had a topic on that subject. I’m really interested…[Read more]

Hey Graphite, welcome to the forum! Interesting discussion about breaking in stones. I never tried to break in my stones by rubbing them together, because I thought rubbing diamonds against diamonds might cause unwanted damage to the stones in the form of scratches or knocked out diamonds. Particularly the latter is a risk, I think. This risk is…[Read more]

Yeah, I never shopped at Oldawan, but I hear good things about their customer service. And then there are sellers who even have their own handles made, like Jende Industries. (Disclaimer: I don’t know whether they actually sell stones, but I got a custom handle from them for use with their lapping films.) I guess that as WE are getting bigger,…[Read more]
