Thank you all for the replies.  Clay, when you strop, if I understood you correctly, you’re not reducing the angle as some have suggested? You also move straight from the 1000 to the leather strops?    With a micro bevel, do you go back to 100 grit and raise a burr or simply use the 800 or 1000 grit stones and run a few passes?  I’ll be sure to do a search for micro bevels and check out the suggestions and videos.

I feel a lot better. Thanks for the reinforcement. Now, where do I go from here? What stone/strop would you recommend as my next step? The strops I used have polished the blade a bit, but when I reduce the angle by 2 degrees, I don’t think I’m getting as much action on the edge. I certainly don’t want to round over the apex, but the sharpened edge is not being polished as much as I would like or expect. Either I’m doing something wrong (probably), or I need to add something to my equipment. Thoughts? Ceramics? Higher grit?

Thank you very much for the advice. If lowering the angle 2 dps, would that take the angle to 18 dps, or 22 dps? (Sorry to sound ignorant, just want to make sure.) If it were you in my position, would you buy the strops first (And which ones?), or the 800/1000 based upon my needs? Thank you again for your help. Matt
