^^That actually seems like they are wearing pretty quickly.
10/24/2013 at 9:22 pm #15463I’d like to read about that alternative stone set up. I’d also like to hear if you figure out how to recharge the stones.
10/24/2013 at 6:40 pm #15460for me the 100/200 and 400/600 did not last very long, but i do a fair amount of knives with them. the 400/600 have bare spots all along the middle portion. no diamonds left, kinda the same with 100/200. i found by replacing them, it really helped me speed up my sharpening at the fares/fairs that i work.
i am on my second set of each and now i feel i should replace orininal 800/1000 soon.
How many knives do you do? How many knives do you think it took to wear out the 100/200 and the 400/600?
That is good advice Dan about not using water. What diamond plate do you use to lap your ceramics? Did any of you all go the waterstone route?
10/23/2013 at 9:47 pm #15432Thanks fellas. I do appreciate your insight and experience. The WE cased does look rugged, I was just wondering if anyone had found an alternative. With the amount of money I may end up spending I should probably not skimp on the case….
10/23/2013 at 6:44 am #15425So how DO you all carry your kit?
10/23/2013 at 6:43 am #15424Thanks Mark. I’ve never tried Balsa. How many knives would you guess you’ve sharpened with your stones over the past two years?
I really do want my system to last long enough to have my kids and grandkids fight over it…10/22/2013 at 3:49 am #15412Thanks fellas. The amount if information is pretty overwhelming. Though I already need the Pro-Pak II, the small angle adapter, and the recurve blade ceramic hones… That’s right about a full paycheck….
10/21/2013 at 4:28 am #15401Hello,
My name is Gary, I live in the Central Coast area of [strike]Kaliforniastan[/strike] I mean California. I’m a fully grown man with a wife, two sons (late teen) and a fetish for sharp things that stretches back as long as I can remember. I’ve run the gamut of Arkansas and Washita stones to Lansky systems to Spyderco sharpmaker to DMT hones and just about everything in between. I’ve tried strops in the form of barber strop, belt strop, purchased strop, green compound, white compound, and wet/dry sandpaper strops on mouse pads.
In my never ending, and ever burning desire to figure out how to get all my edged implements (pocket knives, hunting knives, field knives, axes, tomahawks, chisels, machetes and etc.) as sharp as the material will allow, I’v landed here at Wicked Edge. I made an acquaintance today who is a member here on the forum, and who encouraged me to join, read, learn, and, well, probably end up buying…This Wicked Edge screams to the OCD blade loving inner child in me. Whoops, sorry, that’s California talking…
I’m looking forward to being involved here.
