Thanks!
i want to upgrade this week to the newer vise like u have – you love it? i have pro pk 2 now and have a big event coming up with no electricity so i will have to use my WE….i may even leap to the Gen. 3 set up if available for shipment. thanks.
To be honest I do like it but I don’t love it. I like that it’s quick & easy to clamp blades. What I don’t like the most is the recess on the inside of the jaws. Not sure what the reason for it is but I prefer it not to have the recess. I also don’t like that the jaws are so wide but that I can live with.
03/30/2016 at 10:31 pm #32812Thanks everyone! Patent? No can do. All I did was make a bracket. Can’t patent a product that I didn’t make/design (Tormek).
Unfortunately I haven’t got into making videos yet so not this time. It’s pretty straight forward though. Clamp the scissor blade, use the large middle knob to angle the clamp in the ball park area, then use the arm & microadjust for final adjustment.
I didn’t actually sharpen those orange scissors yet. They don’t come apart but it’s still perfectly doable. I sharpened a pair of scissors that’s been sitting in the kitchen drawer that were really dull for as long as I can remember. That pair was able to be disassembled & has serrations on one edge, sharpened up just fine, quick & easy too.
I didn’t bother trying to put a mirror edge on it. I just stopped at the 1K diamonds. That’s probably as far as I will go for any pair of scissors I sharpen. I don’t own any high end shears.
I’ll snap some more pics on the next one I sharpen.
03/30/2016 at 1:51 am #32790I watched a couple of videos (one was in Chinese, or maybe Thai) and decided to buy the DXL360 (not the DXL360s) for $54. It has the 0.02 degree resolution and looks like the response is pretty fast. Thanks Cliff!
I’d really like to hear what you think about it after you get it & try it out. I was going to get the new red S model as posted above until I read some reviews on it. Price has gone up since the last version so I didn’t want to buy one & find out for myself.
I used to use the older DXL360S for years. I stopped using it cause if it wasn’t used for a while the next time I went to power it on the batteries would be dead. Though it’s supposed to have li-ion batteries which should not discharge in such a short period of time. I believe it’s one of those devices that don’t actually turn off when you power it off, just turns off the display like the cheap HF digital calipers.
It was very light & although it felt kind of cheap I liked it a lot aside from the battery drain issue. I’m curious if they fixed that with these new 360 models if you could test for that.
I’ve since been using an AccuRemote. It’s heavy as hell which I hate & the response time is slower than my old 360S but at least it powers on when I need it to.
(Wow, talk about an old pic!)

Here’s what I started out with.
First shortened the back plate & cleaned up the sides.
Then squared up the back edge of the clamp assy.
Drilled clearance holes for the mounting bolts & threaded the clamp assy. The machined bolt is used for locating center.
Milled the back plate for clearance for the top clamps.
Bolted together, this part is complete.
Next started working on the mounting bracket, made from Al6061.
Drilled & bored for the mounting shaft.
Threaded for shaft set screws.
Milling out where the SVX-150 will go.
Rounded the corners.
The shaft, made out of O1 drill rod. Flats milled for the set screws.
Bracket completed.
Finally, made a couple of delrin bushings & done.

03/23/2016 at 1:58 am #32391Great idea! You gave me an idea to make my own now too. That’s one of the things I wish were different, a longer range of adjustment. With my Gen3 vise & new bar scale, the degrees are still off. By making my own I can make it so the scale is more accurate. I’m going to order a set on my next Mcmaster order. Thanks!
03/23/2016 at 12:53 am #32387Both of the ones you listed should be roughly the same size/fit. They’re both for the same model RC buggy. I have the HPI ones.

03/21/2016 at 1:03 am #32318Why 1″? Is that the size of the lapping films?
Yup same here, I use 3/4″ cause my paddles are 20.1mm. 3/4″(19mm) is much closer to 20mm than 1″ is.
I use the Scotch double sided tape also but I use the permanent cause I had a roll laying around. You don’t really need the removable stuff, the permament & removable types are for use with paper. I use the permanent on aluminum paddles, it comes off no problem & stays on the sandpaper. I don’t care about removal of the tape from the sandpaper cause it gets thrown away anyway. When I run out I will buy the permament type again.
