Something that small could have been there for a while, and just didn’t get worked out… or done without even knowing when it occurred. Just an option to consider.
At any rate… edge looks good!

07/15/2017 at 6:17 am #40139Another setback to my continuing saga to achieve the “perfect” polished mirror edge to an inexpensive EDC. I lost some edge metal again. This time I have no explanation, only a guess. As you can see from the 250X Microscope photo that the bevel is very well polished and I’m only down to 3 micron film. After sharing my dilemma with a friend and frequent Forum contributor, I learned that some times a pocket of Vanadium in the knife blank can let go. Maybe that’s why. It doesn’t matter. Another do over. The search continues. I’m enjoying this exercise in technique and observation. Marc
To me, that looks like an impact deformation… and there looks to be a scratch or two leading away from it (different than other scratches in the area), that indicate something happened in that area. (Just my guess from the picture).
Just out of curiosity… was this something you could see/feel in use? (If so, how bad did it feel?) Or just noticed it under the scope?

07/09/2017 at 8:48 am #39984They are about 8 inch, so I understand the 10″ is a (possible) improvement. But what I don’t understand: how does the rod length impact their angle? I thought it doesn’t.
Not the rod length,,, the taller clamp height would make the difference.

07/09/2017 at 7:22 am #39980How long are your current guide rods? Since the upgrade kit comes with 10″ guide rods… I’m guessing the clamp is taller, which would require a new degree bar.

07/08/2017 at 3:45 pm #39961Cool.
I’m kinda glad Photobucket did what they did… forced me to look into options, which I wanted to do anyway. Their ads were crazy. Some of these options are better, and easier.
07/08/2017 at 12:27 pm #39953Haha… ok… (you basically asked if a “How To” section should be named “How To”)…
(BTW, I was talking about the label on the page… not the link itself. My bad).

07/08/2017 at 10:43 am #39946And how can we answer the question posed by a user on this page?
^ This… the questions should be posted to the forum somehow… or a way to answer it.
Also, why not label it “Knowledge Base” for the link… instead of “How to”? To me “Knowledge Base” is more fitting? (since that’s what it actually is…)
07/08/2017 at 8:57 am #39943Does anybody know how to post an Imgur image on this site? Apparently the instructions I gave above are outdated. It may work on other sites, but not on ones based on WordPress (like this one). Tinypic does still work.
Testing…
(changed the picture)
… so, this came from imgur… it’s the “BBCode (Forums)” link. Seems to work ok?
p.s. Click on the little arrow at the top of the pic, then click on “Get Share Links” to find this.
p.p.s… Now when I click on the picture itself, I see all the link options to the right… including the “BBCode (Forums)” link. So, either way, that’s apparently the one to look for.
07/07/2017 at 12:52 pm #39920In that case… you might want to look at the many Kershaw “imports” that constantly pop up. For example the “Injection” 3820, great knife that can be found for around $15.00…
… Kershaw also has some “Walmart Exclusives”… that can be gotten on the cheap.

07/07/2017 at 6:34 am #39914An alternative to buying cheap pocket knives… I found a lot of practice knives on eBay. In particular searching for “Knife Lot”. A bit of searching (and patience) will give you plenty of practice… and usually on knives that really need it. You’ll get a few “junkers”… they’re still usually good enough to throw in a toolbox or car as a spare… but occasionally you’ll get a nice find too.
Also, many people will sell a knife because it’s “damaged”… a broken tip or chipped edge will often get you a knife for pennies on the dollar… and many are easy fixes… and good practice.
