When I first started sharpening knives, I began charging around $5 per knife, but as I gained more experience and invested in better equipment, I bumped it up to $10-$15, depending on the size and condition of the knife. Prices really depend on your location and the demand for such services.
Regarding getting the word out, I’d recommend starting with social media advertising. Most of my clients come from Facebook ads I run. I’ve been using the AdSpy software to peek at competitors’ ad campaigns that are currently live. It’s quite handy to grasp what strategies they’re implementing and to fine-tune my own campaigns accordingly.

01/01/2018 at 5:11 am #44309I purchased the GO, 800/1000 Stones and 0.35/0.5 Leather Strop. While I think I don’t really “Have” to get the higher grit, it would be nice for my fancy knives.

12/27/2017 at 7:28 am #44182I received my WEGO on Friday. After having it a few days and going back to re-read this thread, I have the following comments.
- One extra set of pockets will work on a bundle. I picked up the 800/1000 stones with mine and some 0.5/0.35 strops. I would say that an 800/1000 stone combo would be the bundled stones, but I think a 800/1200 might be better. It seems that the best edge is probably going through all progressions, but it would seem skipping a set of stones is not the end of the world. A 200/600 and 800/1200 would be the best combo.
- Strops: I think these are a must, but as pointed out earlier here, a single strop is more than enough, you don’t really spend a lot of time stropping, so two, two-sided strops is overkill IMHO.
- Luxury case: The case on the WEGO is perfect. If you were going to do a bundle, I think you could keep adding and adding until the thing is too heavy to carry or you have a Field and Sport Pro. If you want to keep it simple, refer to my comments in #1. You almost don’t need strops, you can just use the leg of your jeans.
- The tools on this kit are perfect, I would say the alignment guide is kind of unnecessary, but buying a Wixey angle guide is a must. So I definitely would make it part of the package.
I love my WEGO and other than buying a set of Superfine or 1500/Glass Platens, I think its perfect.

12/27/2017 at 7:13 am #44181I got mine on Friday and Sharpened all of the knives in my house. I am already looking at a 1200/1600 grit stones. I also heard there was an upgraded bag for holding all of my abrasives. I haven’t seen on their website yet.
