I notice your alignment guide site very square. I purchased one recently and the holes are a bit large so mine site at an angle due to the play. I need to sit the corner where the no 15 is against the jaw to make it sit relatively square
09/05/2016 at 2:46 pm #34988Thanks Mark. What makes you aware their not working anymore? Do you feel it or is it by examining the edge?
09/05/2016 at 12:03 pm #34985Although they’re consumable, they’re more consistent and give a better finish.By Consumable, are these replaced after one use or do they last more?03/02/2016 at 1:43 pm #31778Thanks for clearing that up. Now I read the instructions better I agree with your answer to the first question. It will be what you described. I’ve seen it as something unique to the upgrade kit, but I don’t think it is. Terminology used. I’ve mixed up mounting plate and sharpener base.
Perhaps I should read better. Step 5
02/10/2016 at 6:35 am #31059Agree with the second one.
Regards the first one, I would say its a Friday night car. The idea being, most people finish on Friday for the weekend and just want to get out of work, so don’t care as much about how things are done and if its done right. That’ll do, being a popular attitude at such times
Cheers

I primarily bought the upgrade arms for the micro adjusts. That appeals to my inner perfectionist. The usb makes up for what the truck is trying to destroy. Although the eye test is looming. Yes age 47. Held out as long as I could, but the truck’s going to win this one.
Your description with Josh’s taping method makes a lot of sense. I’d only seen a demo on a short knife and the taped mark followed the edge from heel to tip, but naturally with a longer knife it doesn’t follow the edge the same as it did in the video, but now I know to make it follow the belly to the tip this way following the conical curve.

02/07/2016 at 4:01 pm #31022I kind of like the spyderco one hand opening thing. They seem like good knives. Obviously UK laws mean it wont be the most expensive Spyderco. Ultimately its just a pocket knife for cutting nothing too heavy, but it’ll be sharp and do the job
02/07/2016 at 3:56 pm #31021I’m pretty much feeling the accept less than perfection bit. I just ultimately want sharp knives. Even if the tip has a slightly wider bevel I guess that’s ok. At least you know you can clamp and touch up your edges and have ultimately sharp knives quickly.
I’ll see once the upgrade arms come and I can get some serious amount of practice. The usb microscope I’m getting is since I’ve not succumbed to the imminent fact that I’ll need to start wearing glasses. small detail close up gets fuzzy. I really need to get those eyes tested and accept that I need a pair of specs. Oh well, comes to us all
02/07/2016 at 3:40 pm #31018Thanks
I did enjoy that video. The UKPK does seem to uses poorer quality blade steel, although feels nice to hold.
The FRN, yes, I think it seems to be one of those love it or hate it materials
02/07/2016 at 2:43 pm #31014Thanks
I think the little urban guy might be the boy.
If I’m not mistaken it uses better metal than the UKPK I think
02/07/2016 at 1:21 pm #31012Cheers guys.
Yes the UK is pretty tough. 4 years in the clink if you don’t abide by the tough law
02/07/2016 at 4:37 am #31006Thanks Guys. I’ll persevere with what I know will be poor technique on my part.
I’ve watched quite a few of Josh’s videos which I have found very useful. So Kudos to Josh for the time he has taken to create them.
I’ve also ordered a usb microscope. Watched tom’s video there. That will work for me. Also good to hear you can do an 8″ inch knife while being clamped in one position.
I know I could persevere with the kit I have but chose to get the upgraded arms. Don’t get me wrong the sharpness I get already is……wicked, but will enjoy the increased accuracy and fluidity of the new arms. Once they come I’ll get some serious stone breaking in and edge wickedness.

09/24/2015 at 10:43 pm #29014Thanks for your help guys
09/24/2015 at 6:27 pm #29006Hi Mark
Yes it does. Apologies for my newbie question.
That clears everything up perfectly. Thanks very much.
In light of setting the angle correctly, would there be any benefit to choosing one over the other?
If you set 20 degrees on bottom, why would it be different to setting 20 degrees on top. Would in
not still sharpen the same?09/24/2015 at 1:00 pm #29004Hi Mark
I have the Gen II without the new vise jaw. Just the standard 2 allen key jaw.
Cheers
