Already done that, after reading Zamfir’s post, two replacements are on their way.

    Thank you nonetheless!

I too am experiencing warpage on my WE PP2 stones and strops that I received Saturday. I too believe that it has to do with the plastic base &/or the glue or gluing process.

The strops should be relatively easy to fix… they come up easily enough and you can re-glue them down nice and flat. Of course, I’m sure you can send them and get them replaced as well but it may be just as easy to do it yourself. I have re-stropped my own paddles many times! =)

Wondering if machined billet aluminum would be better than than the plastic base. Sure it would be more expensive though.

Is this a new and recent problem, or has this always been there, and no one ever really looked at the flatness of the stones before?

That’s interesting I never thought to check mine before. All are pretty flat except the 800/1000 which isn’t new. I wonder how much it matters.

    Very interesting.

So, either we are having a few independent odd problem or a batch problem?

A while back, I found that one of my stones (a single 1000 grit plate) was out of whack. I identified that the plate was not positioned properly in the pocket. It was caught up on the end border of the plastic. I just cut the end of the plastic off and the plate laid itself flat into its proper position.

Here are some photos I took:

This shows how I could slip a scalpel under the end of the pate.

This shows the difference in height of the two plates:

This shows how I cut off the end of the plastic with a hacksaw blade:

This shows how the plate snapped into position:

If your problem is similar, I suspect that the the plates may not be the correct length and/or not installed properly. That said, the hacksaw is an easy fix.

By the way, I used that stone for two years before I noticed the problem. It showed up when I started using my VSTAs regularly.

I think I’ll go look at my new stones. Hmm….
