If I was near sighted I could use that mirrored edge to view my face while I used the knife to shave. Nice work

Since I’m not good enough to post a picture of a mirrored knife edge that I have created… I can, however show you a picture of one of the rotors on my car, no these are not new rotors they are several years old with thousands of miles on them…. Some of us have skills in other areas… Some day I will be worthy to carry Josh, or Clays tools.

Very nice Bill! Whatever man you are already pumping out great edges from what I’ve seen!

So did you polish the rotors?

No I use a brake pad with a soft high coefficient of friction. These pads are soft and polish the rotors, they also stop on a dime.. however they do dust, so

All I do is clean them. My car never leaves the garage dirty, including the wheel wells, tires, wheels,  rotors, caliber etc.  I have seven proprietary designs in this car and every other C5 Corvette on the planet.

On this particular model, I like to keep my secondary a little toothy..on the other hand…primary did a little mill work and mirror’ed to set apart from what is out there in the crowd:

And this bugger don’t get shinny but close to no dust-for which I have spare time to mirror my blades

No dust means the pads are hard… causing the dark discoloration I see on the fire path. I can stand on my brakes and the rotors never heat up because the pads are constantly scrubbing the pad surface off. Soft pads do not retain thermal energy ( Heat ) heat is what makes pads get hard, and also what makes your C6 tires noisy. AS I’ve said thousands of times on the Corvette forum, the best brake pad compound on the planet comes from BMW. We at GM wanted a soft pad like the BMW compound but without the need to change them out every 15,000 miles. Soft pads stop quicker,( the most important thing )  they will dust, and wont last as long as harder pad compounds because they break down on contact and keep fade to a minimum. Back to our regularly scheduled broadcast.. OH BTW, you did an excellent job on that knife… it sure is PURRRR ” D “…

Thank you for your compliments on my knife, Bill!

Pictured was after first bedding in, new set up using Hawk Ceramic + two piece rotor from down under and tires are quiet/sticky Michelin Super Sports – replacement for the OEM Goodyear ran craps.

Since this is not Corvette Forum,  a little side note, however. I read All Corvettes are Red and in the middle of Corvettes From The Inside. I appreciate the combined efforts for all those involved in the making of our shared driving passion. Since I am the type who can’t be satisfy with OEM  design and let alone….I will leave it – agree to disagree on your above mentioned….

Back on subject, here is a pale comparison, comparing another one of my humble efforts to the real deal:

Back to our regularly scheduled broadcast..

That’s funny, Bill!  Hey, automotive brake rotors, pads, whatever.  A little deviation in our forums makes for interesting and stimulating talk!

    Great work Victor!!

This may interest some I was working on a straight razor tonight. had some pretty bad edge damage so I had to grind the edge flat before beginning.

This pic below is at the 3um level, which is what all my mirrored edges are taken to then stropped a little (as in 30-50 passes). This is a mirrored edge at optical power 230x on my usb microscope

Then I increased the angle by about 1 dps and micro-beveled at 1um. This is still prior to any stropping as the stropping really brought out the mirror so much it was extremely difficult to capture.

My poor Dinolite is still chugging along, even though they don’t make this model anymore and I’ve had it for 3-4 years!

Also kudos to you Victor, missed seeing you around.  One day you’ll have to share how you get that crisp line between mirrored bevel and stock blade…and dont say very carefully! 😛

Josh I’ve done quite a bit of searching around for the “next gen” scope….still searching but nothing to report yet.  Was looking at a high power optical with possible digital attachment to the eye piece.  Oil bath lens seem impractical…the craving to see deeper is strong!
