    Hey all,

    I’ve had my WE a couple of weeks now, during which time I’ve been going through the usual learning curve. My first success was with my S30V Paramilitary 2, which I was able to get a real nice edge on. My issue is the heel of the blade. While I was able to sharpen the rest of the blade like I wanted, the stones don’t reach into that little nook formed by the finger choil, so now there’s a little notch there. How do the rest of you handle this or is it just the function of the sharpener on this kind of blade?

    Some folks have stated that they helped this situation by grinding off the plastic edges of the stones to be even with the diamond plates. For me, it was not worth the effort for such a small area.

    I had the same problem and this is exactly what I did… Took it on my belt sander for a short bit no problem now 🙂

    Those are your two main options. I suppose you could jury rig a solution but if this is a concern AND a regular occurrence I’d just remove the shoulders from the stones.

    i had the same problem and it drove me NUTS. my solution not really cost effective. i went out and got the choseras. since they’re thicker they clear the choil on the para 2

    Clay has suggested that you can pull the plates and add a layer between them and the platen…
    The layer being whatever you can cut and lay down to fit of the desired thickness.

    Maybe grinding the plastic would be easier…

    It doesn’t take much additional thickness. a credit card thickness of plastic would likely get you there. I just put up with the issue until I bought some Chosera stones…

    I am real glad that I got them..!

    I managed to work on that small corner by lifting the blade handle while on the WE. While doing this I was able to reach it.

    Always more than one way to skin a cat.

    You will change the angle slightly by doing that though…

    Not really, the blade remained in the same position, the only thing I did was flex the handle upward to reach the actual blade tail.;)

    I see, you unlocked the handle and moved it. Interesting, I never thought…having had the same issue myself, that moving the handle would give any extra clearance.

    I have a few Paramilitary 2 knives. I will have to check it out. It really stopped being a problem since I have had thicker stones, but it would be nice to be able to do for those jobs that are OK with the stock WEPS diamonds and ceramics.

    Say hey, Jose,

    I’m not quite clear about what you’re suggesting. Are you changing the angle of the entire knife in the clamp? Since the stone is hitting the forward-most part of the finger choil, it’s not clear in my mind how that would work. If you could clarify, I’d appreciate it.
