The plastic block that holds stones in place are interfering with choil / plunge-grind (don’t know what to call it) of Spyderco Paramilitary 2, making it impossible to grind the edge from heel to tip.
There are numerous knives that are produced by Spyderco that has this, and there are some other companies that have something similar.

Good point MarcH.
I have initially just sharpened some knives without anything between blade and clamp (as clamp seemed to be rubbery enough at the time). After a while, I started noticing slight “grindy” feeling when clamping the blade and I wasn’t too sure whether it was clamp grinding on the blade itself.

Just wondering how much of a precaution I would need to practice when mounting a coated blade on the clamp on Gen 3 Pro.
Is it recommended that the blade be covered in painter’s tape or whatever to reduce the clamp damage (if any)?
Or is the clamp relatively safe to grab onto the coated blades without damaging?

This gave me more confidence in just “over-doing” the blade near handle and it has done the trick. I have re-done my Kershaw Natrix-Carbon Fiber this way and its sharp evenly all across the blade.
I think I am going to do some disassembled sharpening for folding knives (at least for the very first re-profiling) as its just going to be so much…[Read more]

I have recently started using Wicked Edge stuff and have had great successes, mostly.
I am not able to get the same sharpness near the handle of my pocket knives (Benchmade Mini Griptilian, Kershar Natrix-Carbon Fiber) as I do get for the rest of the blade. I have tried concentrated up and down swipes but not too much in fear of creating uneven…[Read more]
