I talked with Clay at blade show for probably over an hour and a half about tips and tricks. And this was a question that I asked. Clay said to re wet the strops with alcohol and rub them together to get the slurry of the paste going again and start stropping.
04/30/2017 at 7:54 pm #38791I know alot of my customers want the mirror polish edge look but want it to be for edc use so I add a micro bevel.
04/30/2017 at 3:15 pm #38781What was the progression Josh?
03/02/2017 at 9:53 am #37587If i’m not mistaken a razor blade is around 600 grit.

02/13/2017 at 7:15 am #37290I use stones up to 1500 diamond then I start using sandpaper on the blank aluminum platens. I follow after the 1500 diamond with 1500 sandpaper then progress with 2000, 2500, 3000, 5000, 7000 then finish with the strops. I am sure the diamond lapping films could eliminate those steps but I just haven’t got them yet and the sandpaper is pretty cheap off amazon and it works great. I use 3m double sided tape on top of painters tape to attach them. they come off clean so you can change them.
02/12/2017 at 8:39 pm #37283I use the Wicked Edge, Tormek T-8, Spyderco System, 1×30 Belt sander and in process of building a 2×72 to start my own custom knives.

02/12/2017 at 8:36 pm #37281This is a 250x view of my micro bevels. I go all through the stones and on up to 7000 grit. The one pictured is a 16DPS with a 20DPS 1000 diamond micro bevel.

01/30/2017 at 1:24 pm #37024Your cutting bevel would be 20dps but would have the advantages of the thinned out shoulders as clay said for slicing easier. I have been putting micro bevels on all my EDC knives and have convinced customers to do it also. Not so much a double bevel but with having the micro bevel your able to keep a good edge on it with having the thinned out shoulders. Keeping the shoulders thinned out helps down the road on repeated (Micro Bevel) sharpening’s so your not getting up into the thicker points of the blade.

01/05/2017 at 1:55 pm #36511I just know Murray Carter swears by it. I have all of his DVD’s and watched all of his Youtube videos and he always finishes with a newspaper strop on top his 6k stone.
01/03/2017 at 9:46 am #36458I would mark gridlines on the stone with a pencil and use a medium grit diamond stone to lap them with. Once pencil marks are gone you should be fine.
01/02/2017 at 10:06 pm #36452This ZT0562 I sharpened this evening was done with the following steps.
