For the price it’s decent enough… I can easily see any issues on the blade. Depth of field isn’t that great, so you have to move it around a bit to see everything, and you see the image “backwards”, so that takes some getting used to. Maybe because it was what I started with, I just got used to these issues (or didn’t know any better)… but there are those who get one and can’t stand these issues, especially the backwards one.
I’ve been using the one Clay uses lately…
I’m not sure it’s really 60x… but the clarity is much better… especially if you’re trying to compare the finish (scratches) a stone leaves. And you can also see any issues on the edge.
Of course, it takes a different battery…. :S
Attachments:05/31/2013 at 9:37 am #11863I’ve tried 3 or 4 in the past year and the one Curtis recommends is IMHO definitely the best! Unless you want to use a “real” microscope… (I use the VEHO and I like it, but its depth of field is extremely narrow.)

i mainly use them to check out karate rating on rings that i find, but found it great for checking edge angles while knife is clamped in vice jaws.

.Attachments:06/03/2013 at 2:18 am #11932I think Ken was playing with you a bit! Carat is a unit of measure used to define the weight of diamonds
Karate is one of the marshal Arts … hence the reference to Bruce Lee.

Karat VS Carat
Carat
Gold has been traded all over the world thousands of years. For centuries it was the only standardized exchange in commerce. Diamond Grading. Carat is the common unit of measurement for all gemstones and refers to it’s weight. CT is the common abbreviation used by the jewelry industry.Karat
Karat is the unit of measurement for GOLD. It refers to the amount of PURE gold contained in an item. KT is the common abbreviation used by the jewelry industry. The following defines the percentages in the most common denominations of gold:24KT contains 99.9% pure gold
18KT contains 75.0% pure gold
14KT contains 58.5% pure gold
10KT contains 41.7% pure goldYou will see fine jewelry items marked either way signifying the gold content. Usually when marking jewelry, manufacturers omit the decimal point and stamp the item 585 or 750, depending on the gold content.
A good way off topic, but still interesting!
:silly:I guess I have too much time on my hands… but I used to read the entire comic section of the newspaper on Sunday morning…

07/14/2013 at 6:03 am #13277Has anyone tried an olloclip for your iPhone it has a Macro lens
I’ve been wanting to get one this would be a good excuse 😉
The macro lens is 10x with 12-15 view
And a nice plus is you can take a pic or video with itCopy and past -source- http://www.olloclip.com/product/
Macro lens
The Macro lens applies roughly a 10X multiplier and allows you to focus the iPhone within 12-15mm of the subject. The Macro lens is cleverly concealed within the olloclip and can be accessed by unscrewing the Wide-Angle lens that is normally attached to it.I might pick one up this weekend from bestbuy. I’ll post my finding when and if I do.
07/14/2013 at 12:59 pm #13287Welcome to the forum, T! Nice tip, I’d never heard of this olloclip. Please let us know how it works!
