    Hi there!

My almost-5-month wait is over! I got the Gen3 from UPS. Immediately dropped in a 5 inch Henkels Pro-S slicer for a try. This knife is quite old and abused, so I was ok with messing it up with new stones and new operator.

First impression – it’s bit more tricky, than it looks on YouTube. It was hard to keep stones flat on the knife’s edge. Even bigger problem is what to do with thin and long blade? Tip was bending under the stone pressure, so I messed up the angle there.

What is the solution for it? Re-clamp close to tip and sharpen it separately?

    Thank you.

    Welcome to our forum!

I noticed the same issues when I first received my WEPS Gen3 Pro, although I suspect the same might occur using the other WEPS systems as well, as they operate in a similar way.

I too noticed fairly quickly that I wasn’t keeping the stones flat against the edge of my knives, especially on my left side.   It’s all in your individual technique.  First thing I would do is slow down. Focus on flat stone to your blade.  If your blade is thin, either re-adjust it, or, what I do is support it a little with my other hand.  Everyone does it a little different.  You will develop your own method.

I do hope this helps a little.  It’s like anything else…practice makes perfect!

I do a combination of the tricks.  I mount the blade closer to the tip, then hold the handle steady with my off-hand.  Of course, this only really works if you do one side at a time.  For instance I might do twenty strokes on one side at a time while holding the handle with the other hand.  Really not a problem.

When you get into it, you might want to add a RAM-mount Claw with one of their ball mounts and a couple of double socket arms.

I have both long and short socket arms to handle knives of any length, but the length depends on where you mount the base.

Re the issue of holding the stones flat against the blade; this is a learned skill.  I try to let the stone follow the blade, trying not to influence the rotation except near the tip.  You don’t want the stone to roll over on the tip.
