The examination of the knife seems like it would take a long time, but really it is only seconds. He reaally wants you to find out is the knife bent? Then check for chips and such? If your knife is bent it has to be straightened or your just banging your head on the wall! Knowing exactly where chips are helps when you get to your stone, so you know where to put your energy?
I’m going to time myself and see how long it takes me? But I’m out of practice cause I’ve been doing a whole lot more shooting lately! So I probably am the wrong guy? I’m thinking Leo Nav is the right guy for this? I think he uses his water stones just about everyday? I would think Leo is our best freehand sharpener!
