Well, I am one day into my WE Obsidian.  Had to work a while this am, but was able to review all the videos on the WE66.  This  afternoon, I figured the edge angles and touched up one of my Benchmade EDCs after putting a real edge on some of my old
Kershaw Leeks that I use fishing.  All of those will now cut braided line without thinking about it.  I then brought out a knife a customer of my Dad’s had given him 50 years ago.  I think he had made it himself.  It had Kit Carson on the blade.  I had never been able to get a decent edge on it with a whetstone.  It now has one for the first time.  I then pulled out an old Buck 110 which is close to 50 years old and put a real edge on it for the first time.  Had I had it sharp back in high school when I cleaned the only three deer I ever cleaned, I might still be deer hunting.  I decided back then that there was too much work involved after I or someone else pulled the trigger(it was way before we had deer processors).

Well, I am definitely a pleased new WE66 owner.  No trace of buyer’s remorse here.  I recently bought a much less expensive system which works well, but would take a lot more effort and time to get the same results. It will be relegated to fishing and hunting trips.  The Obsidian requires so little effort, it is hard to believe the results.  I can’t wait for my wife to dull up the kitchen knives a little!

    Happy customer!

Welcome to the Wicked Edge family, RCH! I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying your WE66 Obsidian. I remember when I got my first Wicked Edge sharpening system, I was looking for knives, scissors, and everything that I could find to sharpen up. I recommend getting a set of 50/80 stones for when you have to do some reprofiling, especially for chisels. Your shoulders will thank you.

The WE66 Obsidian is a GREAT option. IMO, it’s the best bang-for-your-buck$$ model that Wicked Edge offers!

The WE66 is my third WE setup. I previously had the WE100 and the WE120. What a difference the DualCam Vise and Micro Angle-Drive make. The DualCam is much more solid clamp and a lot quicker than messing around with screws. The biggest 2 upgrades I made were the Blade Stabilizer and the Riser that Doug Probst makes. I was hitting the clamp on a few really thin blades like kitchen paring knives and adding the Riser solved 99% of those issues.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying the new WE66.  It’s not even in the same league as your other two older models. This is where the innovation has led. Better equipped models and easier to use, than ever in a whole new generation. WE certainly stepped up. IMO, WE66 Obsidian is the perfect balance between budget, ease of use, compactness, features and practicality.

Even still adapters and accessories are helpful and due have a place. Glad our riser block is helpful for those low angle clamping brushes.

I’m glad that you are enjoying your WE66, Toker. The Riser block didn’t help much for me. I bought a Tormek small knife holder that made sharpening tiny blades much quicker and easier.

It helped out a lot for a good number of knives. The ones that still need a work around are some small kitchen paring knives. I actually rest a small L allen wrench on the Blade Stabilizer’s blade stop since it’s the same shape. Then I put the blade on that and clamp it. That gives me just enough clearance to sharpen those knives.

For anything else, I just pull out my older WE120 and sharpen on that. I still keep that around to sharpen a few cleavers that I have. Unfortunately, adding the riser to the WE66 makes it so I can no longer do a 25° deg on a really tall cleaver.

There’s always the trusted old WE1## series for utility…gotta love square bars. There’s an upgrade with the Dual-Cam vise now.

I love that it’s an option, but it just wouldn’t be worth it for the 5 or so knives that I use my original Wicked Edge for. I probably sharpen them about once a year.
