Sharpened my first knife today, an old 6″ J.A. Henckels chef knife; 20* – 100/200, 400/600. and 800/1000 diamonds.

Did end up with one micro chip still remaining. I believe that it was there prior, and just didn’t destress the edge or use the 100/200 stones long enough.

That chip could be just a cluster of diamonds on your 100/200s which need further breaking-in. I had the same thing happen just 2 weeks ago. Concentrated on finishing the break-in process and the problem cleared.

My guess is that the chip measures only about 0.001″ wide and deep. Not to worry. Fix it on the next round of sharpening.

Thanks TC. Here’s a shot from the other side. Wonder if internal/surface corrosion could be a problem too.
