I bought the Gen 3 field version last year due to its portability and ease of putting it away. As I added accessories the case got stressed and one of the closure snaps broke off.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a better case for the Gen 3 field version ?

    Hey Readheads.

A better case I don’t know about.  But you might check with Kyle and maybe he would take care of you with a new case.  It could have been that the case you had was defective in some way.

I do know that WE has excellent customer support, and they take great pride in their product.  Just a thought for you.

Pelican cases are very strong and durable.

Of course that case is covered under warranty and you’re welcome to get in touch for a replacement. If you’re looking for something tougher, here is the company that makes our cases: https://www.plasticase.com/shop/products/. They’re pretty equivalent to Pelican cases and the prices are much better.

Attached are some pics of the latch failure.  They are not rugged enough for a lot of use.  The case should also be waterproof for field use.

BTW, I just received the new 1500/glass handle and Alum Oxide 9/5/3 with the new alignment gauge.  Nice work !

Clay, don’t worry about replacing my Field case. I pulled out the foam, modified it for my other 6 handles & accessories and put it into an old but favorite briefcase which I will call out specifically in my will.

    Thanks Again, Tom

I’m surprised. Yesterday I watched a Gen 3 with a case and was very impressed by the build quality of both the Gen 3 and the case.

That’s a nice case but the cutouts are not designed for the Gen 3 Field and Sport.  I retrofitted an old brief case (pic below).

However, I now just found my old hard case from 1988 (from an original video camera) along with a beautiful solid piece of foam from a Christmas present. (pics below).

Can someone advise me the best way to pattern and cut the foam ?
