Something seriously off-topic

A knife that’s never been sharpened…

It’s a Tojiro bread knife that has been rehandled for me by Dutch knife maker Frederiek de Vette. The contrast between the knife before and the knife after is so stunning that I wanted to share it with you.

Before:

After:

This knife is now the only one that cannot split hairs, but is allowed in my collection.

Knife. Beautiful.

Beautiful knife. How can that be off topic?

Gorgeous knife. Is that buffalo horn?

No, it’s wood. Spalted wood.

Wow. Now that I look closer, yup, it’s wood. The second photo threw me off the mark.

I have some spalted maple down in my wood shop, but the spalting is much less pronounced. The hardwood sawmill sold it to me 'cause they thought it was a flaw. Told me it would clean right up. For those who are wondering what spalting is, it’s a fungal disease which leaves black lines through the grain. While technically a flaw, it’s highly sought after for the contrast it adds to drawers and furniture.

Vey nice. Is Dutch knife maker Frederiek de Vette a person or company?

She’s a person  . And she’s got a website: http://knives.frederiekdevette.nl/ . She also does great leatherwork.

Yea, how is that off topic. Belongs under “Expert Sharpening of Serrated Edges”
