The Low Angle Adapter is a clamp extension allowing for angles as low as 10° with the Basic Kit and Pro-Pack I and as low as 8° with the Pro-Pack II. The standard vise keys work to attach the adapter and operate the clamp. You’ll want to use an angle cube with the adapter to accurately set your angles.
It’s pictured in blue so it will stand out better but it is actually anodized in black.
Great news Clay! I hope it will work fine. A think that 15° per side is quite acute angle for the most of tasks, but after some time it may be nice to do thinning of the knife, and for doing this with WE Low Angle Adapeter is necessary.
But the new pictures are strange. Adapter looks like one piece of metal, no 2 jaws. I supposed that they are some CAD pictures. Could you show some real photos?
Does it come with longer arms? The picture shows that the paddles are mounted on arms that look a fair bit longer than the normal arms but the product page doesn’t mention any extra arms coming with the package.
Is the strength of the clamping the same as the normal jaws below? I notice it only has one screw instead of two like the main jaws have, so wondered how you achieve the same level of clamping force.
So I’m guessing you have to clamp the knife in the low-angle adaptor first, then clamp the adaptor into the main jaws. And the main jaws will be exerting extra force on the adaptor’s bottom screw because not only is that screw providing leverage against the top screw (like the main jaws do) but it also has to contend with the main jaws clamping down into the adaptor. Poor little thing
That just leaves the question about whether it comes supplied with the longer arms or whether those will be available separately. Clay?[/quote]
If you need longer arms contact oldawan (bob Nash). He hooked me up with some longer arms for the new ball joint arms. I already had longer arms for the old system
How about the questions during testing on the screw lengths?
Does it come with a variety to accommodate different thicknesses, or just the 2 I’ve seen?
And assuming only 2…what are the screw sizes and thread gauges for them? I’ve been thinking of getting more for my PP2 regardless. ( I know the sizes have been posted somewhere, I just can’t find it)
One suggestion: it would be useful to include second shorter upper screw with the adapter. In case of thin kitchen knives, original screw overlaps distinctly and reduces attainable angles. The most in the case of narrow knives (parer).
I’m toying with the idea of buying this but I only have the normal/standard arms. Looking at all the pictures I can’t see how my paddles are going to reach the blade if I had the low angle adapter in there.
And to be honest even the arms in PP2 don’t look long enough to do the job without the paddle being mostly off the end of the arm when in motion.
Can anyone who’s got the low angle adapter give me some advice / findings?
