I calibrated this unit according to the instructions and an online video I found; however, when I performed the 180 test, it didn’t seem to work…?

Am I doing this right? Or am I not understanding something?
Are you sure the glass plate is levelled in all directions. A hang to the right of the angle cube could give another measurement when it hangs left. Put the cube upside down keeping the display facing the same direction and see if you got 180 degrees difference.
