I want to thank everyone for the input on my last post. I am going to make another order soon. How does Two sets of roo strops for 5 and 3.5 paste and .5 and .1 diamond spray. Also Two sets of glass plates for the 3,1,.5 and the .1 micron lapping film ?
Aloha Josh, please take my advice with as many grains of salt as needed but I think this could lead to a small amount of trouble.
The strops will naturally leave you with a slight curve(convexing) of your edge bevel. If you follow that up with a perfectly flat surface like the glass/films combo you will possibly have troubles hitting the entire bevel face.
My preference would be to use the glass/film combo first and the balsa/leather/roo after as the final finish or polish step(s).
Its a great question and hopefully others will chime in with their advice.
Thanks Cliff. My main question was on the progression of the films and strops. I have the PP2 and my bevels are really reflective. I want a true mirror polish. What should my progression be starting with the film? Thanks in advance!
Again grain of salt, trial & error and all that…my first question would be how far down in the grit progression are are you going before wanting to switch over to films/pastes? Are you stopping at 1000 grit diamond or ceramics maybe?
There are at least 2 different very helpful charts to cross reference where you are at on the micro scale to make judgments when switching between abrasive types. Clay and others have also recommended possibly back tracking a grit or 2 when you switch. ![]()
