Hey guys! I am selling my whole line up of Choseras and a couple extras (Shaptons and Sigma 120)

So let me give you a run down. I have had Choseras for years. Around this time last year I noticed my stones were warping and bending up at the ends, which caused stress cracks if you applied any pressure to the ends at all (such as during lapping). Anyway, the entire set was replaced and a new glue was used so this issue is supposed to be fixed. I have not noticed any warping at all, and maybe very slight eroding of the glue under one of the corners of the 3k’s.

Anyway… So In addition to the “good” stones below that are not warping at all, I am also including extra “bad” stones (2k and 5k set) for you (for free) to play around w/ and use until they fail. One of the 5k stones has a slight vertical crack in it at one end (see pic). They are freshly lapped flat so this will not adversely affect your edges when you use them. In the pics below the bad stones are the 2k stones (the yellow ones which are attached to the green 1k stones) on the lower right, and the 5k stones (the grey ones attached to the pink ones on the upper left).

So here is the lineup of the stone pairs that you will be receiving that are good to go:

    – Custom cut Sigma Power 120 grit stones/400 grit Choseras

    – 600/800 Choseras

    – 1k Choseras

    – 2k/5k Choseras

    – 3k Choseras

    – 10k Choseras/15k Shaptons (shaptons are barely used only lapped twice).

All of these stones have been freshly lapped completely flat and the corners are chamfered so you don’t accidentally nick an edge on a recurve or something. Most of these are relatively new. These stones have a ton of life left and I am sure you will enjoy them! Please understand that I have described these accurately and you will receive them as such, but I am not offering any sort of warranty on these that the future ones will not warp or crack. I can just state the condition that they are in right now.

Anyway, that’s it on the run down! New these would cost around $860 not including the extra bad stones (which are still fully functional) or the Sigma 120 stones. I am asking $450 obo net to me (i.e. either paypal gift or add an extra 3% to cover fees) for everything.

Here’s the bad ones, I tried to take photos of the worst damage so anything you see in person should be equal to or less than pictured:

And here is the 3k w/ the glue not under one corner as much:

I’ve never had any of the Choseras, so I’ve never had a good close-up look at them.  It looks like they’ve been mounted on metal (aluminum, no doubt) platens.  This would mean two separate adhesive tape bonds.  Hmmm.  Why wouldn’t they have been mounted directly on the ABS blocks?  Maybe to give you a maximum of usable wear?

I am guessing so Tom. I guess it could add a layer of rigidity to them as well, since theoretically the plastic can flex.

Good luck with the sale… Bill aka ET

    Thanks Bill!

So Josh, what kind of dslr did you buy?  Or are you going to buy.  How high did you have to lift your leg?

I’ve got a Canon T3i with the Sigma 18-250 lens, which I don’t use nearly enough.  The little Elph 130 fits in my shirt pocket too easily.

It was a Canon 6D, full frame. My wife is more of the photographer though hehe, gonna get her to start taking pics for me… up till now they have pretty much been from my phone! I just got the kit lens, a Canon 24-105mm f/4l IS lens. She’s been doing a ton of research because she is coming from a Sony dslr w/ a crop sensor. Can’t wait for her first pics of knives I’ve worked on!

Do you like your T3i? You gotta post more pics up man!!!

I like my T3i,  which is 18MP, but after you’ve compressed the images down to the forum’s required 512 KB the difference really doesn’t show.

The 6D falls into the category of running with the big dogs.

I don’t want to plug Josh’s offer (but I do 😀 ), but these are great great stones. I cannot believe nobody has picked them up yet. I have these stones, too, and I have experienced none of the quality issues Josh experienced with his first set. (But apparently not with his new set.)

The feel of the lower grit (but also the higher grit) stones is unparalleled. The lower grit stones also don’t scratch your edges as much as the diamond stones, so you go faster to the higher grits. And of course they go much higher in grit than the stock stones. And if you want a really mirror edge, use the 5K or even 10K stones. No stone can beat them!

Hey Josh, I have the same camera and lens and love it.  Full frame makes a huge difference, but I am also coming from a 20D .

I have a full set of Chosera’s.  In case anyone is wondering they are like magic for creating mirror edges.  It almost feels like cheating.  It is just that easy.  Also they are not messy.  I am a neat freak and this was my main concern with getting water stones.  I have rubber glove fingers on my ball joints.  You will get a few drips but that is it.  I lay a folded up paper towel on each side and this works great.

Funnily enough I have a T3i as well. Many of the pictures on my blog https://japaneseknifereviews.wordpress.com/ were made with it. (Although they are scaled down there as well.) When you buy this camera and want to use it seriously, also consider to invest a little bit of money in Lightroom, which is great and user-friendly software for post-processing.

All I can say about this camera is that I’m very happy with it!
