Sorry to bum you out.  Some use as a basic progression 100/200, 400/600, 800/1000, finished off with leather strops.

    Many of us use: 100/200, 400/600, 800/1000, 1500/6µ (dlf),  then finished with a 2 strop progression (5µ/3.5 and/or 4µ/2µ, and/or 1.0µ/0.5µ).

As Organic said above most everyone we encounter here, once they see how well they do with their WE System and the basics included, they look to achieve the best edge the system can offer with additional options.   Organic’s right, it is about want not need.  You have coming all you need to sharpen your knives to a very sharp edge…(after you learn how to use your WE130).  I’m guessing once you’re there you will want more. LOL

The 800 / 1000 is a logical choice. I personally think that you would see a greater increase in edge performance with the addition of a set of strops (like the 4 / 2 micron diamond emulsion set) rather than the 800 / 1000, but you can’t go wrong with either.

I have the WE GO and I added the 800/1000 diamond plates and the leather strops with 5 and 3.5 micron compound. I am able to put extremely nice edges on all of my knives. I don’t have the elusive “mirror” finish that many are chasing but it is really effective.

Thanks for sharing that (Ronin).  The elusive “mirror” edge doesn’t count for squat if it isn’t really effective, first!  Beyond anything else.
