Accidents happen. No way around it.

To all those just getting started on the WEPS. Keep it slow. Keep it controlled… Otherwise you’ll be doing some tip-to-heel edge leading strokes and come straight into a super toothy 200 grit edge.

I’ve seen enough of these posts now to believe that the true wisdom is: Use cut-resistant gloves when working the WEPS!

    p.s. Ouch! 🙁

Tuffy Max the Knife uses kevlar gloves I believe they are readily available and fairly inexpensive.

What do you think this came from? Lol
Reached over the WEPS to grab a rag and came right back into a 80 grit edge on a Benchmade 710!!

Aw! That hurts. I hope it heals quickly, Steven! Get well soon!

One of the nice things of being a mod here is reading a lot of posts. One of the lesser things is seeing too many pics of people who hurt themselves. Take care, everyone!

That looks savage ! The nastiest cut I received was after showing yet another bar owner how to locate and use the stones on a slicing machine – the lights were low , music loud & I thought he had turned it off STUPID ASSUMPTION I put my finger on the blade and yes probable for the first time in a couple of years it was sharp – result deep cut just short of the bone – what was worse I was on my way to another bar to do their knives– no first aid kit in the bar so off to the pharmacy to buy sterri strips & paper plaster.
I got a mate to cover it up then went to the next job it took about 2 weeks to heal up it is still numb over the scar 18 months later.

    80 grit edge?! YIKES!!

Yeah, I’ve had quite a few cuts over the years (I’m sure most of you have also) and this one was by far the nastiest. It tore more than it did cut. It’s all zig-zag 👿

I just did the exact same thing last Monday! I have been doing a few reverse stokes before I switch stones to ensure I get all the scratches out and I knocked the stone out of my hand and ZIP went my thumb across the blade. Lots of blood.

Ouch! At least it looks like it healed with minimal scaring… So that’s good… I guess.

I had a finer matching cut on my left hand. My wife sat down and started talking to me. I got detracted when she demanded an answer to her question for the third time. I had a very healthy smooth rythem going. Did not notice the blood till 5-6 strokes later.

She choses to leave me alone now.
