I wanted to sharpen my Benchmade 940 Osborne but i couldent reach to the choil area near the hanhle. The stones were blocked because the plastic part did hit the handle. Is there any solution other than grinding tha plastic handles of the stones away?

That’s weird. I used to have the same knife and I was able to sharpen the entire bevel. The knife does have a sharpening choil which should aid in doing so. Maybe you could reposition the knife in the clamp so that you can reach the choil area?

This is a common problem though with some Spyderco knives. Grinding the plastic off the handles of the stones is one solution. Another solution (which I employed) is to make a sharpening choil with a round diamond file. If nothing else works, you may be able to enlarge the sharpening choil of the 940 using a round diamond file (or perhaps a Dremel).

Success and let us know how you fared!

Which model do you use? I use the gen 3 pro. And how did you position your knive (I dont see a lot of different options to clamp the 940 because of the swedge grind on the spine of the knive.

I want to put a 16 degree per side as primary bevel and then a small microbevel.

You will probably have to remove the blade from the scales and remove the thumb studs to hit 16 dps on that one without messing up the tips of the scales and to allow you to get all the way to the back.

I did clamp the blade now without the handle scales in the low angle adapter and it did work.

Thank you all for fast answering.
