Rubber faces the bottom of the base on the screws you us to mount the sharpener to the base.

Is that for use with the real stone bases, so they don’t crack?

yeah, they go on the bottom of your base on the mounting screws. probably doesn’t affect much of anything if you go with these vs regular washers, but you have them now so why not! =)

    Thanks Mark,
The instructions do say where the washers go.I just jumped the gun and wanted to try out the sharpener without reading all the instructions!
I must say I’m quite impressed so far.

No it is just because the base thicknesses vary and sometimes the sharpener won’t tighten down all the way without the washers. I recommend not using them unless you need to as I have seen some of the blue aluminum bases strip out when only a thread or two of the screw is all that is holding it down.

Some of the rock bases come with a standard washer instead of the rubber backed depending on fit – cause on the rock bases the washers can also help with getting the sharpener straight as the way the rock fractures when the drill bit comes out can sometimes cause the screws to want to pull off center

    Hi Bob
Things are going real well. I watched a bunch of videos and have some experience sharpening wood working tools so the learning curve was quite fast. Not getting perfect results on everything every time, but I’m have fun learning. As some else has said I didn’t know was sharp was until I got the Pro Pack II.
Thanks again for all the help with the purchase of this unit
