Stones Rubbing Vice Top

I have a Gen 3 Pro sharpener and purchased the low-angle adapter. But when trying to sharpen an 8” filet knife, I can’t get to my desired angle without the stones rubbing the top of the adapter. I’m thinking maybe the blade stabilizer might take care of my problem by clamping the knife near the tip, but I don’t want to spend another $76 and find out that the stones still rub. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Clif

Hey Clif

What angle are you trying to get to with this knife? Is it super narrow from spine to edge?

Thanks

Thanks for replying, Matt. I was thinking 18 degrees but you may have other ideas. Here is a pic of the knife.

Two more pics that might help, Matt. Thanks. -Clif

Hey Clif

Thanks for the photos, and beautiful knife! Since that knife is so narrow from spine to edge, you’re going to run into clearance problems no matter what vise you use (our sharpeners or otherwise). I do recommend the Low Angle adaptor, which you already have, and I’d say that you should use the most narrow angle that you can, while still clearing the vise. And remember, the angle markings on your sharpener are going to be off quite a bit when using the low angle adapter as it changes the geometry of your sharpener.

If you’re looking for a totally different solution, take a look at our Venture and Venture Pro handheld sharpeners, they might fit the bill as well.

Hope that helps!
