Hello I am a new owner of a wicked edge pro pack 2. Well most of it anyhow. Somehow the base was shipped by itself and did not arrive with the other equipment. No worries as all I had to do was drill a couple holes in the wife’s cutting board. I managed a crude edge on my Ka-Bar mk1 but I’m so anxious to have the complete set to start.

Thanks everyone. So I eventually got my base in the mail. What a heavy chunk of rock. I’ve been sharpening everything in sight and I’m getting superb results. I’ve done stainless steel, high carbon steel, and semi stainless. I find there a major learning curve but not impossible. I did get cocky and went for my Benchmade 710. I got that thing sharp like I couldn’t before. I did however trash the recurve on the blade I hate it anyway. Over time I’ll grind it out I suppose.
how did you “trash” it? can you take pics? maybe we can help you out and give some pointers…
I guess in the belly of the recurve itself is pointy.

ahhhh yeah I see now… there is a sharp transition instead of a smooth one. So this is what I think happened: you were using a scrubbing motion with your stones and stayed too long in one potition at the heel of the blade. What you need to do is do a scrubbing motion in more of a sweeping motion or keep moving up and down the blade as you do this.
to fix it you can take your stone perpendicular to your edge and “profile” a nice recurve by grinding flat into the edge. after you develop the basic shape you can go to sharpening. watch the flat part on your edge by shining a light directly down at your edge and looking at it. you will start to see the flats disappear and can focus on where you have wider spots so that way everything is even. hope this helps!

My kids, my mother-in-law, friends we visit… then, I don’t have to haul my stone base, I can just hook on to their cutting board. Works great.

Have fun. Bring your questions and answers...this guy wanted me to remove the recurve in the shallot and regrind it to a thin edge for him so it was flat… I basically used the same method although I used a belt sander for the major reprofile work.

Well she wasn’t all that happy. But with a promise of a new one made it all well. I’m wanting to do the mod I found online where you use the Bessey vaccuum clamp. It was 30 bucks at home depot.
I am terrible at sharpening this the reason I got the WE. I will admit that after years of struggle I’m happy.

np mark! so you are scrubbing in an up and down motion with full contact between your stone and the knife edge. Instead of staying in one spot and doing this motion, you need to:
- move up and down the blade without staying in one spot too long
- conduct a sweeping motion and on the return you are still keeping contact with the edge. You can “short stroke” this and not go all the way to the tip when you do it. This is what I was referring to. This will prevent staying in one spot too long and making that detent.
