Making a Paperstone Base + Mod

After doing a bit of research on paperstone I lucked out and was able to buy a sample from a place here in Austin for $25. I measured it out to 12"x12" and cut it down using a 3/4hp tile saw. I then took one of the scraps and centered the base of my WEPS on it with 1/2" left on all sides then cut that piece to size. The reason behind making a 2-tier base was essentially to raise the sharpener up a bit, primarily for comfort and overall approach. I then took a 1/2" countersink bit and drilled 2 holes and glued magnets on either side of the top tier of the paperstone in order to help catch debris and to hold the alignment guide.

I’m still on the process of getting the pieces squared and edges beveled, so please be kind with your opinions.

Nicely done! I like the magnets for the alignment guide and how you have it lifted up a little.

Wow! Thank you, Clay! I was hoping you’d chime in and give your much respected insight, do I truly appreciate the compliment.

:cheer:

Yeah, I’m really enjoying the paperstone. It’s SOOOO easy to machine! And I actually have a couple ideas regarding the mounting base that I honestly think people would be excited about.

Yes, please

Stay tuned!

I like the elevated vise platform… ouch… there I go thinking again…
