Hubble extreme deep field photo

A small portion of the sky. A glimpse of the immensity of the universe. Be sure to click to enlarge the image . . .and remember, you are looking at many, many galaxies.

Thanks for posting! It is good to get some perspective on things once in awhile. Also when you are looking remember, you may be looking at only one of the many universes with billions of galaxies…if you follow the latest ideas in Cosmology. Many universes and 11 dimensions!!! Life used to be so simple!

Yes, I remember when the world was flat.

Very interesting indeed!

I am older than you mate, because I remember beyond that to when the flat world rested on the back of a huge turtle. LOL!
The great scientist/mathematician Bertrand Russell was giving a public seminar once and he was interrupted by a woman from the audience.
“All that stuff you’re spouting is so much nonsense! The world is not round; it is flat and rests on the back of a huge turtle.” she said. Russell politely asked her, “Then what madame does the turtle rest on?” To which she replied quickly with a triumphal look on her face," Turtles all the way down!!!" ROTFLMAO!

Ha ha! :P:

Thanks for posting, Mike! Very impressive. Indeed makes you feel small…

And since we’re in the off topic area, I once read a quote by Bertrand Russell I found so striking that I never forgot it.

“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.”

So true…

Ain’t it the truth!

Are you sure about that?

Bertrand was quite the guy. Here is another bit of gold from his thoughts.

“It has been said that man is a rational animal. All my life I have been searching for evidence which could support this.”

Check out the problems in the Middle East for an example of what he is referring to.(sorry, I used a dangling preposition!!) LOL!

Leo

I was just including some doubt.

So Leo,
Is this where I put the quote:
“That is the sort of thing up with which I will not put”?

Without a doubt, Billy!

Hi Mike

If you are Winston Churchill you can say almost anything and people will quote you. I never understood what people have against dangling a participle on occasion! LOL!

Leo

From my understanding, it was never really a “rule” , though it had its share of followers.

Winny did have a certain way with words.

At a party Winston was well into his cups. Lady Astor was critical and said so.

“Winston you are drunk!”

Winston replied, " Madame you are ugly, but in the morning I will be sober."

Lady Astor said indignantly," Winston if you were my husband, I would poison your tea!"

Winston replied merrily," Madame, if I were your husband, I would drink it!"

Leo[/quote]I can’t help but wonder if he meant that man was a rational animal due the the completely crazy stuff we can rationalize…

Hee,hee, hee! Nice play on words Gary!
Bertrand is one of my heroes, although my math skills stink, I at least could follow his philosophical stuff. Philosophy and Ancient History of the Middle East were my majors at university, so Bertrand for the one and Henri Frankfort for the other.

Leo

Unfortunately not much has changed in the middle east except for the weapons used. :frowning:
