- Does anyone have a simple jig to keep flexible blades from flexing during sharpening process ? I have the latest generation 3 field version.
Not my original idea(like most things)…its called a Ram mount. With my placement I should have went with a longer ram pivot arm and a shorted piece of rod, but you get the idea.
I think Mark and others had mounted the ball directly into the spacer block. Not sure how the idea will transfer to the WE Field model but maybe this can give you an idea or 2 or 3…
Ram also makes a grip attachment which works very well. This is a different approach which lets you mount the tip of the blade closer to the vise, then grips the handle to steady the near end of the knife. Somebody here has some photos of it…
Yes, I have that and it works (worked) great! Unfortunately I lost a part… I actually forgot who made it for me. Was that you Cliff? If not, can you recall who made it?
The old Gen 1 used to have a simpler version of this, which also worked, but not as good. Maybe it would be an idea for WE to offer the ram mounts as an extension for Gen 2 and Gen 3.
Mark I think that was before my time but remember reading about in the older forum posts when it being made by a fellow forum member.
This was just purchased off Amazon…and Tom is right there is a cool clamp attachment available as well to grip the handle.
I think in the Mods section a member had posted his full custom Rig with dual clamps, and a close look at one of Joshes recent pictures showed a mysterious 2nd vise in the shot.![]()
Something definitely is needed for long flexible fillet style knives if you don’t want to do the one handed/brace with other trick…
