I was sharpening a kitchen knife today, and I noticed a variation in sound, and a catching feeling when I got to the 1200# ceramic stone. Upon closer inspection I noticed a hairline fracture in the stone. I pressed on it ever so slightly to see if it was a break or fracture, and sure enough it went all the way through. I have only used this particular stone about 5 times or less, and it’s seen the inside of a plano plastic storage container when no in use.
Not so far. I think Billibong had a crack. I had the tape let go of my Ceramic micro fine. Waiting for new tape in mail. May just try gorilla glue. No cracks or breaks though.
I have a crack running up the middle of mine, but it hasn’t affected anything yet. Seems like the ceramic being necessarily hard, and brittle, can be prone to stress cracks. Mine stay in the Plano box when they aren’t actually sharpening and have never been dropped so that’s the only thing I can think of as to the cause of the cracking.
