Broken Tip

I broke the tip on my SOG Spec Elite. This is the first tip I’ve broken since owning my Wicked Edge. I was surprised how easy it was to fix. Just started with the 200 grit and stayed out at the tip until I got a new one made. Then I went through the grits and started feathering back into the rest of the knife at 1,000 grit. Stropped it up, and you’d never know what happened. So much easier than trying to do it free hand.

Cool. Thanks for posting… something you don’t read how it’s done too often.

Post some pics if you can.

Let’s see if these pictures will upload.

That looks great, thank you for posting it!

That is sweet! :woohoo:

Looks like new, and the polish job is perfect. I have not broken a tip since I got the WE. I did break one just like yours (same amount of damage) but on a smaller Swiss Army knife. I ground it out (either Lansky or free hand - can’t remember). I ended up with a rounded point. I got the damaged section out, but the point was so round it wouldn’t even take splinters out of my hand. I ended up buying a new knife and demoted the original one to trash work. My Swiss Army was a $30 knife. But if you save a $200 or more knife then the WE just about pays for itself. I would never carry a knife with a broken tip, it’s like half of a knife (even though only a tiny chip is missing).

Excellent job, the curvature is so clean you would never know it was repaired. Thanks for sharing, it shows the WE has additional capabilities .
