If this is the first time you’ve used waterstones, you’re in for a real treat. The Shaptons are a joy to use, the feel is just about perfect.
04/28/2012 at 4:17 am #2933Received your Paypal just fine, David, thanks!

04/28/2012 at 3:30 am #2932And paddles are SPF to Davidmcm77!
04/28/2012 at 2:12 am #2930Second try came through just fine! Responded. 🙂
04/28/2012 at 2:08 am #2929Hasn’t popped up in my inbox yet, I’m keeping an eye out for it. Feel free to Email me if you like, I’ve had a couple minor issues with PMs not working quite as-planned on here. 🙂
04/20/2012 at 9:33 am #2857Ok, how about dropping the price a bit, then. Say $150?
04/19/2012 at 8:00 am #2836Seriously, no love at all for the Shaptons ’round these parts?
04/17/2012 at 12:33 am #2806Ain’t that the truth.
Dug ‘er out of the pile and responded, glad to hear things are going well!
04/16/2012 at 11:51 am #2799Hey! I’ll have to check and see where they ended up, I was out of town week before last, and I piled up an ASTOUNDING number of emails while I was away. Still sorting through the mess, I suppose I should really devote a bit more time to the backlog. lol
Doing well, been playing around quite a bit more with all of my sharpening stuff, as well as some new photography gear. Clay got me some upgraded swivels a bit ago that made ALL the difference in the WEPS, that double-bevel issue I was having is completely and totally gone. Hella huge difference, overall.
04/16/2012 at 11:10 am #2797Still sitting in the box, I’ve worked a couple more blades with ’em since the photo, but they are still in tip-top shape. 🙂
02/23/2012 at 3:48 pm #1740Still around!
02/07/2012 at 7:08 am #1568Still up for grabs!
02/03/2012 at 3:31 pm #1535I was indeed intending to continue with a 5k/8k pairing, which would finish the edges up to ready for stropping. The Shaptons will clean up the edge FAR more than the 600 diamonds, but will NOT get you to a mirror polish, even after stropping. According to Ken, the polish starts at the 5k Shapton level.
I’ve PMed you Ken’s email address, he knows everything you could ever want to know about sharpening on stones and is a really easy guy to talk to. He can easily walk you through progressions of any kind you like, and to any endpoint you like. 🙂
02/03/2012 at 10:03 am #1531Good thought, Mark.
Ken over at CKTG is also a great source on abrasives and the Shapton line, he’s another good guy to talk to. He’s the fellow that made up this set for me, actually.
02/03/2012 at 9:03 am #1529Sent you a PM, Phil.
The Shaptons will do it, or the diamond plates, although the 2K Chosera might be a BIT on the fine side for removing the 600-grit scratch pattern. It’d do it, but would take quite a while. (IMO)
It will depend a lot on how you want to proceed with the edges. IMO, the Shapton makes a CLEANER scratch pattern than the diamonds, but is bit less aggressive. The 1K paddles were out-of-stock when I purchased my Shaptons, so I used them off the 600s for most of the use they have on them, actually.
