I would not use Simple Green or Oil Eater. I just use warm water and dish soap with a scrub brush.

Four minutes a knife going from 100 to 1000 grit? Do you really expect us to believe that?

I don’t charge family and friends. And I don’t want to sharpen knives for money. But if I did I would charge $40 for the first time because I know I’ll have to reprofile the blade, then $10 to sharpen it after the first time for a basic toothy edge, if it has no damage. $50 or more for polished edges depending on the size of the blade.

I make sure that I get burrs on each grit also.

Your WE is all you need to find the edge angles on a blade. Clamp up the blade, run your sharpie down the edge, and use your 1500 or 1000 stone lightly until you take off all of the sharpie marks from the edges. You now know what they are profiled to. Shouldn’t take more than 5 – 10 minutes, tops.

I just use Oil Eater then rinse in water. Dry it off with a rag, then heat it with my heat gun to make sure all the water is gone. Then oil it. I’ve been thinking about using wax on knives that I don’t plan on using, but I’m not sure that I can trust it.

I was going to try the L-screws and forgot about them. That’s why I changed my photo and added them. But with my SS Micro-adjusters, they lock very well and I have not had any problems with them loosening. I guess the washers would be a quick fix if you have problems with something loosening. But I would just sand the surfaces myself until they…[Read more]

It might be a pretty good one. I don’t worry about it. I just clamp the knives up and reprofile them anyway, so I know what the angles are. I need to get a 3 ton Arbor press and a decent belt grinder first. I would like to get a Rockwell tester some time also.

I love my Klein Tools Angle Cube. I use it all the time. I wish it had magnets on the sides, but I can hold it. It isn’t that big of a deal.

Most people that I have heard from recommend this one. They also have better models but they are more expensive.

Thanks, Rodger. I am not sure about the plastic ones because I have never tried them. I’m not even sure what kind of plastic that they are made of, or if they are really polymer or whatever. But I really don’t trust plastic. So I saved my money and waited till I could afford the stainless steel kit. I love them! They look nice and work very…[Read more]

Welcome to the WE family, Rodger. I have my WE130 set up with the accessories that you can see in the photo. I have the Stainless Steel Micro-Adjusters, the ball joint boots, stone stops, and you can see the stone covers on my stones. I love the accessories and highly recommend them. I keep my vise taped up to try to keep out as much shavings…[Read more]

Yep. In the link I gave they are called strop covers. But they fit the stones also. The accessories are worth every penny if you asked me. But I don’t call it a rabbit hole – I call it a gold mine. LOL!
Before I could buy the accessories, I also cut fingers from nitrile gloves to cover the ball joints. I used rubber grommets for stone stops as…[Read more]

I love my Stainless Steel Micro-adjusters and accessories that I bought from the guys here in the forum. They give you a lot more adjustability than the standard micro-adjusters. He has some plastic knob ones that are less expensive. The stone covers work great also and ball joint cups and stone stops. Below is a recent photo of my WE130 with…[Read more]
