    Howdy,

Im just starting off with my sharpening business and started a Facebook page hoping to get some business but after two weeks all I’ve got is friends asking for deals. Haha. I thought $2.00 per cutting inch (1000 grit stones) was a fair price but no business yet. What should I do? I’m in the Corpus Christi, TX area. Thanks for the help.

I think your price is more than fair. I’d get some knives looking really great, with mirrored edges and post great pictures of them to the page. Maybe offer that their first knife is free? What’s the link to your FB page?

Vistaprint business cards and a get a hat or t-shirt. Think I spent like $30.  I hand them out where ever I go, surplus stores, hunting fishing supply, bulletin boards, etc.

Also I volunteered to do the neglected knives for a local Church that had a large kitchen, many referrals from them(I left my business card in the drawer when finished).

Link your facebook page and ask those friends for reviews.  Connect your sharpening page with other sharpeners(like me!) and Ill do the same, adding credibility to us both.
Instagram is great for getting exposure as well because its a worldwide audience, which can then send more people to your facebook page.  Google instagram for business.  Use #hastags a lot to get large exposure.

Word of mouth is still my preferred method.  Its accumulative and builds slowly but steadily over time.  I did a chef’s knife set, he referred me to his buddy.  That buddy now stops by every couple months for a tune up of his set, and I always make sure to give him a stack of cards to had out to his friends at work etc.

Good luck and hope some of that can help!
