My EDC’s very from 8cr15mov to S30v, also have some bucks which are 420HC (bucks go to steel) and several others. Every one has it’s advantage and disadvantages. The steel is important but the hardening and tempering of the steel is just as, and in some cases more important than the steel itself. A properly treated 420hc steel can be as good as A2 or D2 or many other steels. Just depends on the user and purpose.

That being said, S30V is probably my personal favorite, easy to sharpen and holds up well. Not a steel you find in most lower end EDC’S though.
